A Taste of Cocos Island, Costa Rica Diving

Awesome Scuba Diving

Three hundred and thirty miles off Costa Rica’s Pacific coast lies a place still ruled by the ocean.
Cocos Island, Costa Rica sometimes called the Island of Sharks requires a 36+ hour crossing of the open Pacific Ocean. Be prepare to endure long swells, an endless horizon, and some discomfort in exchange for something very rare.
This uninhabited volcanic outpost rises straight from the sea, cloaked in dense rainforest, with over 200 waterfalls pouring directly into the ocean. It’s wild, unspoiled, and completely unscripted.
Cocos sits at the convergence of powerful Pacific currents. Cool, nutrient-rich water surges up from the deep—and that’s why the sharks are here.
Cocos Island is known for its massive schools of hammerhead sharks. Galápagos and silver-tip sharks also patrol the reefs. Occasionally, a massive tiger shark emerges—powerful, unmistakable.,
But, sharks are only part of the story. Be prepared to be treated to an amazing display, and variety of wildlife.
Pelagic manta rays glide through the water like underwater dragons. Giant marble rays dance across the reef. Schools of fish grow so dense they block out the sun. Rare red-lipped batfish, frogfish, dolphins, and countless other species reveal themselves to those willing to wait.
Nothing here is staged.
Nothing is guaranteed.
Cocos Island will test you with weather, currents, and endurance. However, the reward is immense—encounters so raw and powerful they redefine what “wild” truly means.
No crowds.
No compromises.
Just a little discomfort… for something extraordinary.
Cocos Island — Island of the Sharks.
