China’s Long March 7A rocket exploded just 85 seconds after liftoff from the Wenchang Space Launch Site in Hainan on the evening of August 10, 2026 (Beijing time).
The rocket lifted off at 8:02 p.m. but broke apart during first-stage flight near the point of maximum aerodynamic pressure (Max-Q). This is the second failure for the Long March 7A and China’s fourth orbital launch failure so far in 2026.
Mainland Chinese media reported the payload was the Zhongxing-4B (ChinaSat-4B), a military communications satellite. The explosion means the satellite never reached orbit.
This marks another rare setback for China’s space program. The Long March 7A had previously flown multiple successful missions after its first failure in March 2020.
Watch the dramatic footage and get the key details on what happened.
