Are you curious if the 2027 Rivian R2 can keep the party going for the electric automaker? We definitely were, which is why we subjected this much-anticipated SUV to our rigorous testing regimen. The Rivian R2 Launch Package comes fully loaded, boasting impressive specs on paper, but we had to see how it performs in the real world.
First up, the Rivian R2 range test. With an 88-kWh battery size, it covered 305 miles on our standardized Edmunds EV Range Test. While it fell slightly short of its EPA estimate, it still puts up solid numbers. When it came time for instrumented testing on the 2027 Rivian R2 Performance, we were blown away by its acceleration. Pushing out massive horsepower and torque, the R2 laid down a blistering 3.6-second 0-60 mph time and hauled through the quarter mile with ease. For a vehicle weighing nearly 5,000 pounds, its 60-0 braking distance of 124 feet remained remarkably consistent and confident, even with repeated hard stops.
Inside, the Rivian R2 offers an excellent mix of high-quality materials and massive utility. With an airy cabin, fold-flat seats, and a clever roll-down rear window, the cargo space is expansive and ready for any adventure. Despite minor quirks like the heavy reliance on screen controls, it stands out as a highly competent and comfortable daily driver.
