Iran has slammed the brakes on direct diplomacy with the United States. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran will not engage in direct talks, while accusing Washington of violating a June interim agreement. However, messages between the two sides are still being exchanged through intermediaries, he added. The biggest flashpoint remains the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi said Iran and Oman were in the final stages of an agreement to establish new maritime routes through the strategic waterway. But Tehran insists that finalizing those routes does not mean Hormuz will immediately reopen.
