Carney fires back after Trump calls Canada "nasty," says he's protecting Canadian workers

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, pressed about comments ‌by U.S. President Donald Trump that "Canada is nasty," on Thursday said Ottawa was ‌standing up for domestic ‌workers and businesses.

Carney, speaking to reporters in Saguenay, Que., said Canadian negotiators in Washington were having detailed talks with their U.S. ‌counterparts about a review of CUSMA.

"The whatever adjective is used, yes. We're standing up for Canadian workers, for Canadian businesses. As we always have from the start and from the start, our focus has been on what we can control," the prime minister said.

Trump said ‌in a speech in Las Vegas Wednesday that "Canada is nasty," and ‌referred to the country's "nasty leadership," as he threatens to impose more tariffs on Canadian imports next week.
