Welcome back to watching Fox 7 Austin News at 530. There is still no agreement
on the Strait of Hormuz. Though President Trump continues to insist the war with
Iran will be ending soon, but he won't give any details about when or how it
will happen. Fox's Jared Halpert with the latest from the White House.
I think it's gonna end pretty soon. I don't think they can go much longer.
It's starting to sound familiar, President Trump predicting a quick end to the Iran
war, followed by a denial from the Iranians. On Friday, lawmakers in Tehran
took a step closer to passing a bill that would bar the U.S. and its allies
from transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran insisting it maintain control
over the vital waterway. Almost all the topics are under discussion. The
map, the transit routes, and the entering and exiting of maritime traffic.
President Trump was asked about the Strait on Thursday. He says the U.S. is in
charge, but Iran is still blocking traffic. We control it, but they can
always shoot something. They always have something or drop a mine. Iran's
insistence on controlling the Strait has become a major sticking point during
negotiations, and experts say they won't give up easily. Their nuclear enterprise
is largely under a mountain of rubble, so this is their prize that they believe
they've got. The president says if Iran does not make a deal soon, he'll restart
airstrikes, but his options may be limited by America's declining weapons
stockpile, leading some to suggest a pivot to asymmetric warfare. It's just
not the military, it's the economic, it's the diplomacy, it's the information, it's
cyber warfare. We can hit Iran from many different directions where they cannot
hit us in a similar fashion. While direct strikes between the U.S. and Iran are
paused, Iranian-backed militias are carrying out attacks against Gulf allies,
including Saudi Arabia. At the White House, Jared Halpern, Fox News.
