'I Wasn't Driving': Speeding Motorist Blames Tesla Autopilot for Ticket

A driver pulled over for speeding in Parker, Colorado, claimed he was not responsible for breaking the speed limit, as he “wasn’t driving” — his Tesla was.

Bodycam footage from the Parker Police Department shows the traffic stop, during which an officer told the driver he was traveling at 64 mph in a 45 zone.

“I wasn’t driving,” the motorist told police. “That’s assisted driving. Autopilot, sir.”

Despite the officer explaining that drivers are legally responsible for operating their vehicle, the motorist was adamant that his he was not at fault for breaking the speed limit, and demanded to speak to the officer’s supervisor.

“No matter what technology your vehicle has, the person behind the wheel is accountable for the vehicle’s actions,” police said in a social media post. “These systems are designed to assist you, not drive for you.”
