After navigating challenging terrain, steep ledges, and high winds, the explorer discovers dwelling remains, ancient pottery, storage granaries, and tools like a grinding stone and flint, providing a glimpse into the lives of the people who once inhabited the site.
I spied these ruins in a cliff face across the valley while camping in the desert.
Come with me as I hike and tread the edge of a thousand foot ledges to explore them close up.
So I just came from that wash that's there behind me actually I came from way way back over there
working my way over then came through the wash and then worked my way up.
I'm working my way towards some ruins I saw way way off in the distance with my binoculars
and uh on my way here right I'll show you here I'll flip it around right up there
there's a cave so if I can figure out how to get over there I think I can go right over here yeah
we're gonna go check out that cave. Well I got up here and it doesn't appear to be
much of a cave that's too bad yep that's it sure is pretty out here so that's where I'm headed
and uh looking at it with my binoculars now I couldn't see it before but there's dwellings
on this side it almost looks like there's a tower blocking access to the front face there
so I'm up here and uh came up all this way and down there
way over there I'm on the right level and it's getting late though and uh I've got to get around
this I'm not sure I can and then it's still tougher I made it up here and you can see right
behind me right there is the wall I'm gonna flip it around here and uh show you but uh
yeah made it up this far it wasn't too too bad actually that though this looks like it's gonna
get real steep and the wind is howling so I don't know we'll see I'll check real quick I'm running
out of time I'm running out of daylight nope so this is the route over it's not too bad to there
but then once you get to the wall and then past that wall you've got to go around the corner
it holds the whole way so I'm all about my looks when I'm up here if something happens we're in
looks like there was a wall right here at one time
so if they were defending it you'd have to come up and over this wall which would expose you
I don't know maybe that's a way to get over yeah I think that's about as close as I'm gonna get
pretty neat I went back to this cut and decided to climb up it
I can't fit through there what if that gap was just a little bit bigger over there
get through huh that's too bad I'd much rather go through there than around the outside
the wind's blowing way too hard anyways maybe in the morning when there's no wind
I can try it again that's that's a shame I can't get over there today so close
all right thanks for coming you guys it's been fun though yeah all right you can see I'm right
under the go around from the little door block into the main dwelling and I come down here and
there's a beautiful piece of pottery
you can see the dwelling behind me well there that's the
block door there and then they would have to go around that part I'm down right down below it and
I just wanted to show you guys good stuff so this is a little wash area right below it and already
you can see there's some pottery there up here look at this beautiful piece I suspect I just
if I keep going up I'll find more and more and more of it pretty cool so we're gonna go
go up and around right underneath the dwelling part of it here in a little bit
so this is the area right underneath the dwelling and you can tell why they built here good water
supply apparently look at the convoys so this is interesting so up there is the ruins
but if you look right here if you just now notice you see the stacked rocks and a little bit of
wall there so we're gonna go and get up closer see what that is all right I just found a little
way up oh this is too cool that's gonna be a little granary extend this pull out very neat
then you have this be another storage area almost right here you can see where they
dug their fingers across there and they made it down here too see what else there's anything else
uh there's another little one must have been just like little storage areas
got it all came down probably another one here maybe one there that looks like uh see how it's
smooth right on the surface there like it could be hey wait wait look and look that's a grinding
stone or a piece of one anyway and uh you can see right there where they would grind
I can't believe that all this is still here see what else yeah I'll snap a picture of that on the
way back that's pretty cool gotta be careful I'm dropped off it doesn't look like there's anything
else so that's pretty cool you can definitely see where that stone is born right there
see how smooth it is it's almost like a river rock which is so unnatural around here
and you have this place
this one and then the other very neat wow very cool I'm glad I came up here so right under this
honestly I thought I'd find more uh piece of pottery and stuff like that under under here
and there are some uh pieces of pottery around there's two pieces there you can see a couple
other ones but I wanted to show you this so this is a piece of lint and you look at it it's flat on
this side which is ideal for grappling it in your gripping it in your hand like this and with this
sharp sharp edge here for skinning uh meat off of uh taking the meat off the skin I mean I don't know
maybe maybe it's a little far-fetched but uh seems to work fingers rest nicely and you could
work it and this is this is really sharp so um I don't know pretty cool we'll keep looking around
still walking around right in front of uh the ruins right there and uh on the edge of the path
or path the edge of the animal trail here I just came across it so it looks like
people have been collecting pieces of pottery and pieces of uh working flint
and that even looks like a piece of an old grindstone there and just stacking them here
you know which is an interesting thing to see but should really leave things where they lay
um and I'm pretty sure you're required to do that so but who knows these could
have been a bunch of cowboys back in the late 1800s to do this
one last look at the ruins here behind me and uh hey it was a lot of fun thanks for coming out
with me today hope you guys enjoyed it and uh we'll see you again the next time until then
take care be safe and uh have a great day oh that feels good it is hot out here
all right
