AI GeneratedThe speaker analyzes the political viability of Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom, discussing their internal party standing, public perception, and the challenges they face from the media. The discussion highlights the tension between their establishment status and the need to appeal to grassroots or progressive voters to secure a nomination.
Probably the biggest split in my reporting this month was about Kamala Harris.
Should she even be on the list? Some of my sources said, no, she shouldn't even be on the
list. She's not going to run. If she runs, she'll be a disaster. Other people think she should be
number one. They've looked at her performance of late, and they just don't think she's going to do
it. My female sources, Democratic sources, interestingly, were in most cases, not all,
were pretty down on her. A lot of reporting that says she's not decided, but she's doing a lot of
things to leave open the option of running. She spoke to the Urban League a few days ago,
and she's clearly tilting left. She's clearly thinking about running. She's a former vice
president. She's going to be an establishment candidate, but she's clearly thinking,
how do I take some of that populist, anti-establishment, progressive wing of the
party and tap into it? Here she is speaking in front of the Urban League a few days ago.
This is Kamala Harris talking about her agenda. S11, please.
And we must allow for a real conversation about revisiting certain things. For example,
and I know this is going to be controversial coming from me in particular, we need to
revisit the Electoral College. We need to revisit the point of expanding the court
to 13 justices like we have 13 district courts.
We need to revisit, if they so want, statehood for Puerto Rico and DC.
Yes. If we regain control of the Senate.
I served on this committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, when I was in the Senate.
Now, there's some weasel words there. We need to revisit, okay? Not let's get rid of the
filibuster, not let's make Puerto Rico state. We need to revisit. That's a kind of caution.
That's a kind of shifting and shading that a lot of people point to to say,
she's not going to run. If she does, she'll have a problem.
But she's smart, I think, several of my sources pointed out. If she does want to run,
she's smart, they said, to go left because she's going to have to be a grassroots candidate.
The donors, the political class, the media, they're never going to root for her. They're
always going to try to bring her down. That's just the nature of where she is after losing
in 2024. And she's got a big fundraising list. She's done events for her book tour around the
country, including around the South. She's strong with Black women voters.
So she's going to be an establishment candidate, but she's going to try to
get that Black vote. Remember what I said, the new calendar seems to favor candidates who can
raise money or have money because they're rich, candidates who can appeal to Black voters and
Hispanic voters, and candidates who are more establishment rather than socialist progressive.
That's Kamala Harris. But again, she's got a problem, which is never going to be favored
by the media. Gavin Newsom, who I dropped from one to two, has a similar problem.
The other California candidate, he's got the same problem Hillary had in 2008,
which is the problem that the Walt Disney Company had. I used to work at the Walt Disney Company.
There's something, you become a big figure and you become snakebit. You become somebody who
the press never gives a break to. If somebody dies at the Walt Disney World,
it's a huge story, no matter how they die. If somebody dies at a Comcast park,
it doesn't even make the news. This is a problem for Gavin Newsom.
We saw it this month with a couple stories that popped. First, a woman who he had an affair with
that had previously been written about, and he talked about it previously. She wrote a piece
for Vanity Fair about the relationship. Didn't put him in the best of light. Here's the Vanity
Fair headline, How I Blew Up Then Rebuilt My Life. She talks about her affair with Gavin Newsom in a
lot of detail. Here's how the New York Post covered it. The New York Post plays a key role
here. They now have a California edition. Ruby Rippey, that's the name of the woman,
breaks cover after salacious essay exposed Gavin Newsom affair details.
Here's another New York Post story. Newsom said he'd release his tax returns. He was required to
release them, but he didn't publicize them in the sense that he didn't post them on the internet or
give them to reporters. He told reporters they could go to a reading room and take a look at
them. Other politicians have done that. Here's the headline from the New York Post, Gavin Newsom's
release sparks outrage. The problem Newsom has now, and as you know, I've told you before,
I'm not as certain as everybody else he's going to run. But the problem he has now is very similar
to what happened to John Kerry when he ran against George Bush in 2004. I call it a swift
bow veterans for truth problem, which is the conservative media will go after Newsom for
everything. The New York Post and all the conservative media on social media, anything
he does, they will cast in the most negative light. And then what happens is that stuff
on a conveyor belt goes to the more what I call the dominant media, either because they pick up
the stories kind of on the merits, or they write about the fact that the conservative media is
going after him. That's what happened with John Kerry and the accusations from this group Swift
bow veterans for truth that some of you will remember. And recall there's a criminal investigation
into Gavin Newsom and his wife. Don't know where that will go, but there's going to be both real
and made up stuff about Gavin Newsom. It'll never end. That's why I think he may not run.
He want to put his family through it. But he is like Kamala Harris. He'll never be considered
the fresh face. He'll never be considered new and exciting. He'll always be cast by a lot of people
in the party as old, even though he's never run for president before, but because he's been around
on the national stage for so long. Talking now about life insurance. We all know we need it,
