The Best of Boccherini

Luigi Boccherini (1743 to 1805) was an Italian composer and cellist who spent most of his career in Spain, where his style blended elegance, lyricism, and a very personal sense of chamber music. He helped shape the string quintet and often gave the cello a brilliant, almost soloistic role, as if he were writing for himself inside the group. Spain left a deep mark on his music too, and you can hear it in the dance rhythms, the guitar colors, and vivid pieces such as La Clementina and the famous Ritirata notturna di Madrid.
