New Discourses.
____________________
This segment features a discussion with political commentator James Lindsay regarding the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and their ideological alignment with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The conversation explores the DSA's Marxist foundations, their open support for Chinese socialism, and the potential for financial or strategic coordination between the two entities.
The Democratic Socialists of America will have more names on the ballot in this year's elections
than ever before. PSA members around America have been toppling Democratic incumbents and
winning primaries. And the group doesn't hide its socialist leanings. It's in the party name.
But how close do they consider themselves to totalitarian socialist governments around the
world? For example, the Chinese Communist Party. With us now is James Lin, political commentator,
best known for his vocal criticism of Marxist ideology and postmodern theory. He's also the
founder and president of New Discourses. James, thank you so much for joining us this evening.
As you know, we've just learned that six self-described members of the DSA have signed
a pledge to support the People's Republic of China and promote understanding of Chinese
socialism. Two of the signatures come from self-described DSA committee members.
Does this surprise you? The only thing surprising is that they're this open about it.
The sentiment does not surprise me at all. And I would suspect that the vast majority of DSA members
feel somewhat similarly because they're socialists and they're socialists of the
Marxist variety. And they all stick together because they all have the same goal in the world.
To your point, it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. We see DSA members have made glowing
reports after returning from trips to China where they were treated as what they called
VIPs. They also run what are called seminars on modern China and lessons for U.S. socialists.
How close do you think the DSA's ties to the CCP actually are?
I would wager. I mean, I don't have hard evidence, but I would wager that
practically speaking, like in terms of funding sources and coordination,
that they're actually pretty strong in terms of ideological
collusion or similarity. They're very, very strong. I just mentioned before that they're
socialists and have the same goal. All Marxist socialists believe in the same way that Christians
believe that they're supposed to Christianize the world and spread the Great Commission and all of
this. Spread the gospel, I should say, to the Great Commission. They all believe that they
are supposed to work to bring about socialism. And it doesn't really matter how you do that.
So the CCP right now is the strongest vehicle in the world for bringing about socialism. And so
they would see this as one of the most important tools. The DSA is committed to the exact same
project to change the world to a global socialist project. So their ties are very tight. As a matter
of fact, I went through their platform the other day in tremendous detail, exposing its Marxist and
Leninist explicit references and foundations. But I also took a look at how it compares to what's
called the Common Program for the People's Republic of China, which was the constitution
Mao Zedong installed from 1949 to 1954. And there are several points of strong similarity.
So their ideological connection is deep, it's strong, and their socialist faith matches.
And it would be not at all surprising at all to find out that they have rather tremendous ties
financially and practically to the Chinese Communist Party, not least as we're starting
to find out from the State Department through Cuba as one point of contact that they have.
James, at the beginning of this conversation, you said you weren't surprised, but you're surprised
how open they are about actually signing this pledge and open about their support. You look
through their platform. What particularly stood out to you as a striking example of similarities
to think of what could be in the future relatively mainstream political party has
ideologically aligned with the Chinese Communist Party? It's incredible to think.
Well, since I don't have it in front of me, and it's a quick segment, it's hard to pull up
exact points. But the idea, of course, is that everything is going to be free and paid for
by the taxpayer. The tax base is going to be rapidly expanded, I should say, to capture
monies from everybody who they see as effectively a class enemy, everybody who is, in their words,
rich and not paying their fair share. If you look through the number of times that there are
oblique references to things that Karl Marx said is very high. There's an oblique reference to
from each according to his abilities to each according to his needs. There's an oblique
reference to a stateless classless society where they say that you can govern yourself.
So the references to communism, the structure that they have is very pre-revolutionary communist. So
there are many points that are directly out of Marx and Engels and Vladimir Lenin's structure
and their thought. Many references that I would point to that are the State and Revolution,
which is Lenin's 1917 book. But at the same time, it's pre-revolutionary, not post-revolutionary.
So the goal is actually to damage the American system so that it's not stable enough to continue.
So it's slightly different than what you would see put into play, say, in 1949 by Mao after the fact.
