Alexey Starostin (1924-1987)

Alexey Mikhailovich Starostin (1924-1987) was an outstanding representative of the Soviet academic painting school of the second half of the 20th century and a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. His work represents a rare and refined form of lyrical realism that is completely free from ideological constraints. Starostin made a significant contribution to the history of Russian art as a brilliant colorist who revolutionized the technique of large-format, impasto, and textured plein-air painting.
