The Rubik's Cube is a 3-D combination puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik.
In the original classic Rubik's Cube, each of the six faces is covered with nine stickers that are one of six solid colors: white, red, blue, orange, green, and yellow. Some later versions of the cube have been updated to use colored plastic panels instead, which prevents peeling and fading. As of 1988, in the models, white is opposite yellow, blue is opposite green, and orange is opposite red, and red, white, and blue are arranged clockwise in that order. In early cubes, the position of the colors changed from cube to cube. An internal pivoting mechanism enables each face to rotate independently, thereby blending the colors. To solve the puzzle, each face must be given only one color. Similar puzzles are now produced with different sides, dimensions and stickers, not all of them by Rubik. Another feature of Rubik art is that people bend over to form more beautiful patterns.
