Yesterday we started the helicopter stunt.
One of many stunts that Tom is doing in the sequence.
The whole sequence he's been training for well over a year.
He's going to be doing all of his own flying.
Good bridge coming up.
What's going under the good bridge?
We've got nothing.
Probably the most terrifying location in the chase was a very narrow canyon.
If anything happens and you go down, there's no way to recover you.
That's how remote it was.
You know, there really hasn't been a helicopter sequence like this in film.
I mean, I was inches away from sides of cliffs, right on the tail of Henry's helicopter.
Had we shot that on a green screen, you never would have gotten what we were able to get for an audience.
Henry came in and he had to be in that other helicopter.
And we're flying around and it was freezing.
I'm sitting outside on the skid of the helicopter.
I can just imagine myself just falling out of the helicopter if it tilted or banged too much to one side.
There was a point where I was like, this is not feeling like a stunt anymore.
Obviously, mission is about practical action.
It's something that we want as much in camera as possible.
Every camera mount has been designed and all the camera positions that you can see that Tom is doing everything himself.
There are no stuntmen involved.
Rebecca Ferguson showed up and said, is that Tom?
And I said, yes.
She goes, what is he doing?
And I said, just wait.
You're actually standing there watching him.
Then you see this tiny little black dot climbing up.
It's goddamn high.
And about a second later, Tom fell.
And I heard myself scream.
That's when I went, no, no, he's good.
He's just doing the stunt.
Very upsetting here.
It was a very, very exciting thing to behold.
And I think in the movie, when people see it, knowing he did it, always adds to the joy of the experience.
You know, you end up on the edge of your seat, literally, because you know that this actually happened.
We can say, honestly, nothing like this has been done before.
Do not try this at home.
No, please do not try this at home.
