On January 15, 2025, a SpaceX Falcon 9 launched the Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander, but after completing its mission, the rocket's upper stage didn't have enough fuel left to change course and was left drifting through space.
Over the next 18 months, Earth's and the Moon's gravity gradually nudged it onto a collision course, and on August 5, 2026, it's expected to crash into the Moon.
