Seattle in August: How to Make the Most of Our Best Month

So August in Seattle is like the payoff for every gray day we have survived all year. We have a lot of light, we have nice warm weather, and almost no rain typically in the forecast. So if you're trying to figure out what to do to get out and have fun in the month of August, these are some of my top recommendations. As always, you got to start by looking at the seafarer calendar and seeing what's going on. We have the Blue Angels flying over Lake Washington and the hydroplanes out on the water. It's really fun to grab a lakeside spot or even rent a boat and just go out and hang out and be in that kind of, it's the nostalgia of the long-standing traditions of things that we have done for years and love to do here in the Seattle area. Now if you are into music, there are a lot of good summer music offerings all throughout the city and you have a lot of good choices in August. Zoo Tunes from the Woodland Park Zoo brings big artists to the lawn out there and you can go and listen to those. Or you can head out to Woodinville and go to Chateau St. Michelle where they kind of turn that wine country vibe into a weekend concert almost every weekend. You can bring a blanket, get a bottle of wine, and just enjoy being out there on a warm summer evening. Capitol Hill, you've got a block party that takes over the city on August 7th through the 9th and if you are kind of more of a mellow suburbs person, then the Edmonds Block Party is that same weekend. It's walkable, it's family-friendly, and it's right by the water on Puget Sound. So for something totally different, this is kind of what my family likes to do. There is a renaissance fair out in that has like jousting, those giant turkey legs, mead, witty banter. Not all of it child-friendly, but hopefully your kids won't know what's going over their head. They do a pretty good job of making it something that people of all ages can enjoy. And if you go in costume, even better, extra bonus points. It's really a pretty good time. And all month in August, Queen Stage does free Shakespeare in the Park all over the city. It's a great way to expose your family to something a little cultural. You can bring a blanket, you pay nothing, just pack some food and watch great theater under the sky. And it's a great way to be outside in a summer evening. And if you prefer to get moving a little bit, take a look at Festival San Beata. They've got free dance nights downtown with dancing till dusk is what they call it.
