Copper-Throated Sunbird, Nectarinia calcostetha 13cm, is the largest sunbird. It is locally common in magroves and adjacent coastal forest and gardens, but otherwise scarce. Male looks almost uniform black in shade apart from yellow pectoral tufts (often concealed) but glitters iridescent purple and red in sunlight. Common on the islands and mangroves around Kota Kinabalu, e.g. Likas Swamp, P Gaya, and P Manukan at Sepilok and at Bako near Kuching.
The information of the Copper-Throated Sunbird is cited from the book section reference below:
Q. PHILLIPPS & K. PHILLIPPS, “SUNBIRDS” from PHILLIPPS' FIELD GUIDE TO THE BIRDS OF BORNEO, Oxford, John Beaufoy Publishing Ltd, 2011, p. 308.
