Alright, good morning YouTube. Today I am working on this Seth Thomas number 11 office clock.
This clock actually is one of the best running clocks I have.
There's a couple small minor details with it that I want to repair and let me see if I can
show those. One is the trap door, the trap door down here at the bottom. Number two is this latch.
Somebody's put a screw there and I don't like that so what I did is I purchased this and I bent it
and I'm going to use this for the latch and it's going to have to go under here.
I'll change the camera angle and show you what I'm talking about. So first problem is this trap
door in the bottom of the clock. When I got the clock it wouldn't even stay shut. Now it'll stay
shut but it's not, I don't know, it's not, it's not right. And the problem is there's this little
screw. See this little screw right here? This little screw is, it goes further back in here
and the hole is kind of wallered out. Now when you have a wallered out hole there's two options.
Number one is you can drill the hole out, you can put a dowel in there, you know, and then
re-drill the hole but screw it. I think because I have limited room I moved this screw to a
different location and yes it closes now. Like I said it closes. It's not, it's not,
it's not perfect. You can see a little bit of edge here. I think what I'm going to do is I'm
going to fill the hole, the old hole with wood putty and then kind of re-drill it out and try
to go that direction with it. I don't know. This clock is leaving. It's been over here at my office.
I feel like I have lost all my clocks. They've gone different places. The big number four
regulator went to my house. The other square one went to my house, the bigger one. This one
is leaving. It's going over to an Airbnb property. I'm going to hang it on the wall over there.
Hopefully nobody will mess with it. So I want to adjust this, get that right. I want to fix this latch.
Next thing is see how loose this glass is. This glass is not good. So when this clock, I got this
clock, the glass was cracked. I had to replace this glass and this glass is just not in here very
tight. I'm not happy with it. See how the glass kind of fell out. I'm going to put it in Airbnb
property. I don't want people messing with it. I'm going to put a sign, do not touch, but still
I need to secure this glass a little better. So I'm going to look at that and see what I can do
for that. So just a little cosmetic stuff on this one. All right. So this is the back. Now this glass,
like I said, is new. It's a little thicker than the original. I wish the original wasn't cracked,
but when I received it, it was cracked. These tabs, you can see have been soldered. This one's
actually loose. I need to re-solder this one down here and I'm hoping if I re-solder this one
tightly, I can make this glass kind of in here tight. I don't like, see this one's not even
touching. I'm hoping I can make it a little better fit. I may put a little bit of tape in here. Okay.
If you remember the last clock, the little Bradford I did, the Bradford had a wedge pin. This one,
it has a bolt right here. So I'm going to take off the, actually, you know what? I think this
is attached. I don't remember. I think the face plate is attached to this outer ring.
I'm going to take off this outer ring. I'm going to take off the hands because I want to put this
piece, take off the screw. I want this piece to go under there and I want to take off this ring
so I can fix the ring with the glass. So that's what I'm going to work on right now. Again,
we've got this little washer here and then we've got this. Okay. This minute hand has this little
gasket in here. So if you turn it, it's supposed to, you can adjust the time with it without
turning the internals of the mechanism. I'm hoping you're seeing this. There's a little gasket in
there. All right. Remember this is just wedge fitting, the hour hand. Second hand, again,
just wedge fitting. My trusty screwdriver. These screws are a little mismatched. My screwdriver.
Let me do, undo these screws on the brace. All right. All right. This is, this is what we have.
Here's the 86 AK internal, Seth Thomas. And I'm going to take this screw off.
And what I'm going to, I'm going to drill this to match up with that right there.
Make this hole a little bit bigger. Let me see if that'll, see if that'll line up.
Kind of dry fit this. Yeah, I think that'll work. Plus once it has the glass in it, it'll be.
All right. A lot of trial and error. I'm going to take this off. This is what I want to work on.
Okay. So in this clip, I just sped the speed up a lot because I just fiddled with this thing for
a while, making tabs and trying to get them to stick. And I was really having trouble getting
the solder sticking to the inside of the brass ring there. You know, after I finished,
I think the problem was I didn't clean the inside of that ring real good.
And I think that was, was, was causing the solder not to stick to it very well.
But the hot glue was a lot easier to use that I used in the second clip and was a lot quicker.
And next time I use hot glue, somebody reached out to me and said, Hey, you can also use
silicone, a little dab of silicone and like five or six spots around the
edge of the glass and that will hold the glass in place. So in the future,
I'll know better about how to handle this, but this was definitely an epic fail for the,
my attempt to solder these little clips into place.
All right. So this is take two of trying to get this glass secure.
The, the solder just, it wasn't working. It's not sticking.
So I'm going to try plan B and what plan B is, is plan B is a little hot glue. I'm trying to find
something that's not super permanent to help this glass stick. I can make these little brackets.
That's not a problem. I just need them to stick again. This, this clock is going over to a Airbnb
property. I don't want some kid playing with the glass and maybe hurting himself. So I want to
really make sure this glass is in here secure. So I'm going to try this and see where this gets us.
All right. It looks like hot glue is working pretty good. Pretty good. I am
kind of happy with that. Let me bend a couple more pieces and kind of put them all the way around so
we can see what the heck's going on here. Okay. So after fooling with this for what seems like
forever, I've got it pretty good. This one's in there tight. That one's in there tight. This one
just keeps the glass from shifting. Glass is in there. It's not loose very much. I'm going to
call this a win. I did realize what you need to do is you need to clean the case off real good
before you clean the inside here before you put the hot glue on. But it's pretty good. It's pretty
solid and I'm going to call that a win and move on to the next project. Just took forever. Okay.
So I've got this back up here. I'm going to mount the bezel back on and then the dial or the face,
whatever you want to call it. And I still have to mount this little hook over here too, so it'll
hook on. I don't know. I may cut this and make it shorter. Let me see. I'll cross that bridge when I
get to it, but right now I need to mount this. Embrace that. Let me just try to mount this just
to go ahead and test fit it and see how it works. That actually does work. Not bad. I may just go
with that. Sometimes if you get mixed matched screws, like they're all the same, if you just
do a diagram, like a circle, and place the screws on the circle where they came out of,
it's a lot easier to remember what's going where as far as screws go. That there. Again,
when you're putting the face of the dial back on, make sure it's centered on these
so you can wind it, but not like that. The hands don't bind on the dial or the face.
Sometimes these little screws can be a little fiddly. All right, I'm just finishing up putting
the hands back on. All right, so as soon as I stood this up on my desk here, it started running. I got
in a corner because of that little knob on the trap door, but it's running. I'm going to go
install it over at the Airbnb where we're going to leave it. I'm just going to sign up. Please do
not touch, but this is a great clock. It runs really well. It's not low. You can hear it kind
of offbeat a little bit, but I'll re-center it when I mount it on the wall, but this one is done.
