To mark the beginning of the global celebration of Zubin Mehta’s 90th birthday, the Belgrade Philharmonic was the first orchestra to launch the festivities in Mumbai — thanks to the remarkable seven-decade-long friendship between the Maestro and the ensemble.

At the concert held on January 15 at the NCPA in Mumbai, where the orchestra performed under Maestro Mehta’s baton alongside Pinchas Zukerman, the musicians prepared a special tribute to the great Maestro. Together with students from Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, they performed Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances side by side — not only honoring Mehta through music, but also celebrating his lifelong mission of passing knowledge on to new generations.
