Canada vs. Finland Full Highlights | 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase

It is night number two for Canada at the World Junior Summer Showcase. Their opponent on this lovely Thursday in Windsor is Team Finland. Canada coming off a 5-3 setback one night ago at the hands of Team Sweden. Verhof headed back to the University of North Dakota. First round pick, ninth overall to San Jose. Turned over Lafreniere to Veja and a nice stop by Yester Rossi. Back to the line and Alex Wang. Wang feeds it off the crossbar courtesy of Cameron Reed who helped the Kitchener Rangers to the Memorial Cup title a couple of months ago. The Canadian number 14 will play for the Guelph Storm this year. The Storm hosting the Memorial Cup in the spring. Schmidt in hot pursuit. Great feed. Hopkins robbed by Rossi. Verhof an opportunity. It's blocked by Kamerainen before Catavisto peeled off. Bush out of the penalty box. So Canada on the power play and Bush the power forward driving to the net. Broke his stick at the top end. Verhof behind his back. Almost set up Dima Zhilkin as Sumovari again turns it back. Arvola racing in just out of the reach of Kamerainen. Rasmus Kamerainen. Kotejarvi and Lassell with a good save. Verhof into the zone. His past attempt off the stick. Harrington fans trying to dump it. There's Reschny again. Good move. Reschny drives it to the net. Rossi dives out at him. Shaken. Slow to get back to the net. Verhof is dumped in the corner. Reschny back to the line. Morrison a wrist shot. I don't think that got to the goalie. He's from Prince George. Lawrence turned it over in the neutral zone. Lassell kicks it out off the stick of Jessa Parsonen. To take the draw. On his weak side is a left-handed shot. Kamerainen off the draw. Headed block. Sari now. Scores! Julius Sari finds the five hole. And number five gives Finland the game's first goal. Dinoye towards Tynan Lawrence. Protects it. Now he'll let it go. Just fly to the target. Out there with Dinoye and Cameron Schmidt. Dinoye. He'll direct it down low towards Schmidt. Got inside leverage. Comes away with a puck. Shoots it and it's steered to the corner by Jester Rossi. Who's made a couple of good saves. Reed moving in again. Cameron Reed. And it's literally fought off by Rossi. Lot of titles there. Shea Bush. With Dima Zhilkin and Cole Reshny. Spinning and turning Zhilkin. Drops it off for Verov. Had it escape. Morrison moves in from his blue line spot. Bush to Reshny. From his knees! Almost tied the game. Great effort by Cole. As he and Kamerainen are in a wrestling match. After Rossi makes another good save. And he might be close. Except they have a lot of good young pieces. Wraparound! They score! 8-2 Orpana. Beats William LaSalle. And the Finns have jumped into a 2-0 advantage on Orpana's third of the World Junior Summer Showcase. Reshny with Shea Bush. Reshny to the middle! And delivered it with some authority. And Rossi continues to be rock solid in there. Hasn't had to do anything of a spectacular nature. Reed in about two steps. Almost out of the zone. Loses it. Atavisto off the stick. Goes wide. Virtanen now bursts in himself. Virtanen finds Ledekainen. That is LaSalle's best save of the game. Turned back by Veroff, who is in the lane. Parsonen fakes it. He'll shoot it! He scores! Jessa Parsonen. And it's 3-0 for Finland. Lead pass for Zilkin. Scores! Dima Zilkin. Broken all alone. And the Saginaw Spirit captain provides a little spirit for the Canadians. Arvola. Kamarainen leaves it for Samu Alulari. In front! And there's a really big stop by William LaSalle. Feels like every one he takes, he wins. Look at Zilkin get to the net! He scores! Some kind of goal by Dima Zilkin. His second of the night. Canada trailed 3-0. It's 3-2. Rashne, who I think is at a very, very solid game. Comes away with it. Feathers it. Veroff. He scores! And just like that, 3-0 is turned into 3-3. There goes Wang. Wide. He's in stride. Wang. Stopped by Rossi. Schmidt whistles it over top of the net. I'm not sure if Rossi got a piece or not. Veroff returns the favor. Lafreniere in front. Scores! Caleb Desnoyers. They might take a look. Oh, here comes the decision. Goal. Caleb Desnoyers. Power play goal. And Canada in the lead for the first time. The Canadians in front. And now, as a result of the decision on the power play, Schmidt racing in again. He is flying tonight. He's always been a dynamic skater. Behind his own net to Smith. Up the boards. Rubrik can't get there. Mackinnon. Cadevisto. And Lassell keeps the Canadians in front. Lafreniere. Lawrence in front. Desnoyers back out. A great save. Another incredible stop without a stick. Last goaltender I saw do that was Patrick Waugh and Wayne Gretzky. Scores! Jackson Smith. Through a screen. And it's 5-3. Trying to kick it free. Lawrence is there. So is Arvella, who finds Ladakanian. And then Kamerainen. Just jammed wide of the target by Kuizma, who's had his chances tonight. The boards. Virtanen was waiting. Spread across the ice. Parsonen. He'll have another shot. And Lassell says, I've got it. And that'll do it. Canada, who trailed 3-0 past the midway point of the second period. Score 5 straight. And beat Finland tonight 5-3. We'll take a quick break. Be back for a little bonus coverage. Some three-on-three overtime and a five-player shootout. Leaves at first fence. He'll dart in. Vertis fence. He scores! Surprises. Lassell far-posted in for the L.A. King pick. Didn't go there last night. Catavisto. Kicking out the right pad is Lassell. Denoyet almost stops on his way in. Waits. Scores. Alvio Vanatalo tries to slip it through the wickets. And Lassell turned that back. Sada. And yes, Tarassi kicked it out. Virtanen tried a delicate little flip, but I think he fanned. Well, I know he fanned on the flip. Dima Zhilkin again. Almost stops. And rang it off the crossbar. Sumovari. He'll weave way to his left. Cut back in front. And finds the net. Koreshny. Scores! Iturpana. No surrey. Just for fun. Lawrence. He scores too. Dima Zhilkin. The 17-year-old from Toronto. Youngest guy on the ice and had one of the biggest impacts. Two goals, one of them. An absolute beauty. Canada over Finland. They'll have one game left to play. Saturday against their arch rivals from the United States.
