In this video, I explore the world of "budget boutique" acoustic guitars, taking a closer look Hsienmo Guitars. A $1,000 handmade, high-end, Martin-style OM guitar, that's made in China. Not only do I take the guitar through its paces, extensively recording it in my studio, but I also take it to two renowned guitar techs to see if it holds under the scrutiny of a blind evaluation, tapping over all the logos so the instrument can be judged only on its build quality, materials, and tone. Their reactions—and price estimates—may challenge some long-held assumptions (including my own) about what “Made in China” means in today’s acoustic guitar market.
