Video Summary
AI GeneratedMontenegro is a small Balkan nation offering a diverse landscape of dramatic mountains, deep canyons, and stunning Adriatic coastlines. From UNESCO-listed walled cities and sacred monasteries to turquoise rivers and hidden lakes, the country provides a rich blend of historical architecture and breathtaking natural beauty for every type of traveler.
Welcome back folks to a brand new video.
With less than a population of under 650,000, Montenegro is one of the smallest countries
in the Balkans.
Yet this country has managed to squeeze in dramatic mountains, canyons, wonderful lakes
and some of the most beautiful Adriatic coastlines.
So here are 10 beautiful places to visit in Montenegro.
Now before you even watch this video, don't forget to hit that like button, obviously
for the YouTube algorithm.
Number one, Perest.
Located in the middle part of the Bay of Couture, Perest is a tiny hillside town sandwiched
between the coast and the mountains.
Its single main street is overflowing with pretty architecture, the crumbling bell towers
and the romantic seaside cafes.
And it's those cafes where they offer a slice of delicious almond cake, which apparently
is a local speciality that you should try.
Perest was established by the Venetians and features grand marble palazzos and picturesque
churches.
So it's a somewhat peaceful place and just a 20 minute drive from Couture.
But this is the place where I went to and I highly recommend that you stay.
It wouldn't be a trip to Montenegro without visiting the country's most popular destination,
Couture.
The UNESCO World Heritage listed Couture Old Town is amongst the most enchanting walled
cities on the Adriatic and a worthy rival to Dubrovnik or Split.
There's medieval Roman churches, Venetian palaces and towering Byzantine towers.
All reveal the legacy of the many different empires that have occupied Couture over the
centuries.
The best way to experience Couture is by ambling along the cobbled streets early in the morning.
Before all the crowds arrive and of course, to get that rooftop view of the town.
Central Montenegro isn't just easy on the eye, it's full of wonderful nature.
So the waters of Lake Skodra are shared between Montenegro and Albania.
The richest and the marshiest part of the lake seems to lie along the Montenegrin side.
Now this largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula covers an area of over 500 square kilometres.
And despite its size, it's a true hidden gem in Europe that has somehow managed to
avoid the limelight.
It's best seen in the summer months.
Number 4, Sveti Stefan.
The island of Sveti Stefan is the poster child of the Montenegrin tourism and it's not
difficult to see why.
This is without doubt one of the most beautiful places in Montenegro.
Located off the country's central coast, just south of Budva and the bay of Couture,
Sveti Stefan started life in the 15th century as a humble fishing village.
Built on an isolated island, the whole town was fortified to afford its residents protection
from pirates and the Ottoman invasions.
It's now joined to the mainland by a narrow causeway, but it's actually off limits unless
you happen to be a guest of the Amman Hotel, where apparently they do day trips for tourists.
So please check that out.
Number 5, Ostrog Monastery.
Located close to Montenegro's second largest city, Nixic, Ostrog Monastery is the country's
most sacred Orthodox Christian site and a major highlight for pilgrims from around the
world.
But you don't have to be religious at all.
You can enjoy the monastery from different viewpoints.
Viewing Ostrog from the marked lookout points in the valley below is one thing, but climbing
the stairs to see it up close is another.
Number 6, Budva Old Town.
A more glamorous and touristy version of Couture, Budva is the most visited destination in Montenegro,
and of course a popular cruise ship port in the summer months.
The beach and the Riviera have become a playground obviously for the rich and famous.
But Budva might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's worth braving the crowds to
wander around the stone alleyways of the walled Old Town Stara Grad, which is also a UNESCO
listed site.
Number 7, Tara River Canyon.
Part of Dormitory National Park, the Tara River Canyon is one of the most beautiful
natural areas in Montenegro.
The waterways flows down from Bosnian Huts of Gavina, where it forms a natural border
between the two countries.
The most beautiful spot along the gorge is Dervica Bridge, constructed in 1940 when Montenegro
was part of the Moldovan-Slavic Empire.
It was the largest concrete arch bridge in Europe at that time.
Number 8, Dormitory Park.
Montenegro is synonymous with the coast and the bay, but the dramatic landscapes of the
country's interior are equally as impressive.
Almost the entire eastern half of Montenegro is mountainous.
The National Park in the northern corner is the premier destination for hiking, kayaking
and other adventure activities.
But the Tara River that flows through the park offers some of the best water rapids
anywhere in Europe.
The trails are plentiful, so enjoy.
Number 9, Piva Canyon.
Piva Canyon Road is a very scenic drive, in the southwest of Montenegro near the border
with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
So if you feel like going along the winding roads of the Piva, then this is just for you.
The drive offers unforgettable views of the mountains and of course the river, amazing
turquoise water off Pisco Lake and beautifully located bridge over the canyon.
Now it's said that many people say that this canyon was even more beautiful, more
attractive and more mysterious than the Tara Cavern.
There's fishing or cruising by boat, this place has it all.
Number 10, Hrceg Novi.
Hrceg Novi is a great place to go to enjoy the resort feel with fewer crowds than you'll
find on similar beaches in Croatia and the Croatian islands as it's so near.
Adventure enthusiasts will want to rent kayaks and paddle out to the rusted fishing trip
that's stuck in the Dane and the Blue Cave.
Culture travellers will want to wander the whole town and visit Sevina Monastery.
There are kilometres of beachfront promenade that you can explore and multiple quiet beaches
to relax on for everyone.
So there you have it folks, 10 beautiful possible places that you could visit in Montenegro.
It's such a small country but it offers so much more.
So if you do like this video don't forget to give this a thumbs up and subscribe and
I will see you all on the next one.
As always be good, be kind and be careful.
Peace.
