BUTTERFLY LOVERS 梁祝 | China's Romeo and Juliet & Ancient Chinese Instrumental Music| 国风音乐 & 千年蝶恋
Three years of hidden glances. One tragic promise. A love that defied death itself. 🦋💔
What would you sacrifice for your soulmate?
Inspired by the legendary Oriental tale of the "Butterfly Lovers," this cinematic short film takes you on a breathtaking journey of love, disguise, and cruel fate. To pursue her dreams of studying, Zhu Yingtai disguises herself as a male scholar. On her journey, she meets the gentle Liang Shanbo. Sworn brothers by the river, they spend three magical years together—reading, laughing, and sharing the four seasons. But beneath the disguise, Yingtai falls deeply in love.
When her family forces her to return, she reveals her true feminine beauty, but the innocent Shanbo fails to recognize her. In a desperate plea, she invents a "twin sister" and leaves him a butterfly silk pouch as a promise of marriage.
But fate is merciless. When Shanbo finally arrives at her manor, he is brutally beaten away. Yingtai is locked up and forced into an arranged marriage. Heartbroken and battered, Shanbo takes his last breath just as Yingtai is forced into her red bridal palanquin.
In a climax of ultimate tragedy and defiance, the bride leaps from her carriage, rushing to his lonely grave in a violent storm. As she weeps, the stone grave miraculously splits open, and she dives into the abyss to be with him forever. From the ruins of their earthly sorrow, two ethereal butterflies emerge, soaring back to the academy where their innocent love began.
