A fashion content creator analyzes and ranks the civilian wardrobes of various Peter Parker iterations. By recreating outfits from the MCU, the Insomniac video games, and the film trilogies, the creator evaluates layering, color theory, and character alignment to determine which Spider-Man possesses the best personal style.
Who is the best dressed Spider-Man?
Ask the question.
Well, when it comes to Spider-Man,
people always talk about the actors,
how well they portrayed the character,
which Spider-Man suit is the best.
It's Chasm 2 by the way.
But no one ever talks about
Peter Parker's civilian outfit choices.
So as a guy that has made fashion content
for over a decade,
I'm gonna be doing just that.
So I bought the full outfit
from each Peter Parker.
Holy Maguire, full sin.
From Tobey all the way to Yuri Lowenthal.
We're gonna rank them
from best dress to worst dress.
And at the end,
I will wear the winning outfits
to take my son to the Griffin Museum
for an exclusive Spider-Man experience.
So let's get started
with our most recent Peter Parker,
Tom Holland from Spider-Man Homecoming.
How's your aunt?
Yeah, she's alright.
We're just gonna go based
on the newest Peter Parker
and then we'll work our way back in time.
We're gonna start with the pants and kicks.
So for his pants,
he's just got on some regular straight fit,
maybe slimmer fitting gray pants.
All I have are some dark gray jeans
and he has on some new balances,
but the only new balances I have
are these skate sneakers.
Tom Holland doesn't skate like that.
So he has on some more runner type sneakers,
but let's try it on.
These are the Levi's 505.
So a little bit slimmer fitting
and he actually has his pants cuffed,
classic 2016.
Next, we're gonna work on the top half of the body.
So he has on a red flannel,
navy blue crew neck
and then a black bomber jacket.
He's actually layered up pretty well.
You'll see with most Peter Parkers,
they have like a hint of Spider-Man in them.
So you'll see a hint of red from the flannel.
Already, I'm gonna let you guys know
we're filming this in July.
It's humid.
So if I'm sweating, I apologize
because you'll see that some of these Peters
are layered up quite a lot.
On top of the flannel,
he has on the blue.
So we've got the blue and the red right there.
Guys, I'm already dying.
This is his base outfit.
Then on top, he has on a black bomber jacket
and then of course the ear pods.
Let me stick the ear pods through.
All right, so here is the Tom Holland outfit
from Spider-Man Homecoming.
If you guys remember,
this is the scene when we first get introduced to Peter
two months after Civil War
and he's getting ghosted by Happy,
picked on by Flash Thompson
and also since this movie took place in 2016,
this is a fit you would typically see back then.
The cuffed pants with runners.
These aren't runners,
but he was wearing runners,
bomber jacket, the flannels
and then topping it all off,
we got the ear pods,
which air pods weren't released at that time.
So this makes sense.
It's a nice little pop of white onto the outfit.
Tossom designers did a great job.
So where does Tom Holland Spider-Man
from Homecoming rank?
This is a cutout of his fit.
Let's head over to the board.
I do like the fits,
like the layers going on,
like the pop of white from the ear pods
and mind you, this is just best to worst.
So the middle here just means average
in terms of all the Peter Parkers.
You know what, I'm gonna leave it dead center.
So he's right in the middle
just because we haven't seen any of the Peter Parkers.
He might move forwards,
he might move backwards, we'll see.
Let's move on to Tom Holland's second outfit.
Tell me something only you would know.
Well, remember when we went to Germany,
you pay-per-viewed a video in your room.
They didn't list the titles,
but I could tell by the price
it was an adult film at the front desk
and you didn't know how I knew.
Okay, okay, fine, it's you.
All right, so for the next Tom Holland movie,
since Brand New Day isn't released yet,
we're gonna go with Far From Home.
This is when Peter makes a trip to Italy
and we're gonna break down each piece,
starting with his pants and sneakers.
Now, I don't have these same exact pants.
These ones are slightly wider fitting.
His are a little bit more slim, straight fitting,
but the color is very similar.
He's also wearing some Air Max 1s,
which I can appreciate.
You know, Tom Holland's got a pretty decent sneaker game.
All I have are some Air Max 90s,
so we're gonna roll with these.
But now let's talk about his top layer.
So it consists of two items, which is great
because I'm trying to get out of this super layered outfit.
All it is is just a white T-shirt
with a flannel that's buttoned up.
So thankfully I can take all this off.
I feel like I'm suiting up for Spider-Man right now.
All right, thank goodness.
So he's got on this flannel right here
and it's buttoned up all the way,
probably around right there.
So a little bit of the white is sticking out.
And then he's got on his backpack from his trip.
Outfit's not complete yet.
The sleeves have to be rolled for this one.
Rolling your sleeves does a lot for an outfit.
So here's the outfits from Far From Home.
And I like this outfit because it's honestly something
you can really wear for any time period.
It definitely suits the more lightheartedness
of Far From Home.
I feel like Homecoming was a little bit darker,
had some more intensity to it.
Vulture being the villain.
Where does this fit stand in the outfit ranking?
Let's go rank it.
It's actually not a bad fit.
It's a little bit more timeless.
I do like that his Homecoming fits
got some more layers going on.
I think I'm gonna put it above
just because the outfit's a little bit more timeless.
You can really wear this anytime.
So yeah, I'm gonna leave it right there for now.
Let's talk about Tom Holland overall.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Tom Holland.
Toby is my guy.
Tom Holland has grown a lot.
Mostly because the Home trilogy,
that's basically Peter's origin story.
But Tom is great.
I love that he does a lot of his stunts.
He's a gymnast, so he can do a lot of flips.
And he's very athletic, which I can really appreciate.
But now let's move on to the next Peter Parker,
which is Yuri Lowenthal from Marvel's Spider-Man,
PS4, and PS5.
This suit is the only reason I'm still alive.
Yeah, it's pretty great, isn't it?
Why don't you pop some more pills
and say what you're really feeling?
Hey.
So let's start with Peter from Marvel's Spider-Man 1,
released in 2018.
And the outfit is relatively simple.
He's got on a pair of dark wash jeans,
a white shirt, and a green flannel.
Let's put on the pants first.
These pants are the Levi's 517.
They're a bootcut pair of pants.
You'll notice this a lot.
Peter Parker's in flannels.
So for this Peter, he has on a regular white shirt
underneath the green flannel.
So luckily I don't have to change.
Button his flannel most of the way up.
It's also kind of hard to tell what footwear he has.
So I got on some regular low-top Converses.
And another thing, sleeves are always rolled.
So you have access to those web shooters.
And here is Yuri Lowenthal's Peter Parker's outfits.
Depending on which one you're playing,
this is a John Bovniak version from PS4.
The PS5 version, I believe they changed the flannel color
to a more blue.
And that's with Ben Jordan's face model,
which is getting a little nerdy.
That's not what this is about.
Basically, he wears this throughout the whole entire game,
for the most part.
I'm mostly remembering when Peter kind of gets kicked
out of his apartment.
He sleeps in Aunt May's office,
shows some love, supports him,
leaves him some money, which is really nice.
Very sweet.
Overall, it's honestly just like a regular basic outfits.
Definitely fits for Peter.
The color's not too bad.
The green and the blue is kind of nice,
which is why I kind of like this one more
than the PS5 version.
Also rolled sleeve, always a nice detail.
Really helps elevate the outfits.
And instead of making it a little bit more boring,
just show some intention.
How does this John Bovniak PS4 Spider-Man rank on the board?
Where does he rank?
Tom Holland's got the Air Max ones though.
It's almost the same outfits,
and the colors are actually good on both.
I think I like Tom's better than the PS4 Spider-Man.
This is where we're going to start shifting things.
Let's put PS4 Spider-Man right here.
I'm going to move Tom's first outfit.
It's a good outfit.
The layers are good.
Don't get me wrong.
But let's do a little bit of this.
Let's move on to Yuri Lowenthal's Peter Parker
from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for the PS5.
Relax and be a good proton.
Stay positive.
Second Spider-Man game,
you got to play as two Spider-Men.
This next outfit I'm taking straight
from when Peter goes to Coney Island.
And I really don't have to change all too much.
This outfit is literally just this outfit,
but with this jacket.
So let's see how it looks.
All right.
So he's got on this jacket right here,
which is a Sherpa Trucker's jacket, work jacket.
This one has a nice corduroy texture,
which is what I believe he has in the game.
We're also with a new Peter Parker,
a new face model at least.
It's technically the same Peter Parker,
but this is with Ben Jordan.
So this is a different looking Peter,
which if I'm being honest,
it doesn't look like Peter Parker.
And if you guys remember,
it's the Coney Island scene.
So this is when Harry finds out
that Peter is Spider-Man.
And it's a really cool sequence.
We just swapped out one piece.
You see, he was wearing a flannel before.
Now he's got on a jacket
that has a little bit more put together.
Perfect for a date night,
which is basically what it was with Mary Jane.
And I actually quite like this fit.
This is a timeless jacket.
It looks good on any guy.
The white shirt pairs perfectly
with the Sherpa lining inside.
If this was a black shirt,
I think it would contrast a little bit too much.
I will say though,
with this outfit,
even in the game,
his white shirt is a little bit too long.
The dark wash jeans contrast
against the orange of the jacket.
So it's actually more complimentary colors
for the color nerds out there.
And then he has on the same converses.
Let's see where it ranks on the board.
Definitely better than Tom's.
I'm gonna move these down.
We're gonna swap these.
I think I just like the colors of this one
better than Spider-Man PS4.
This one's pretty good.
Is this Spider-Man museum worthy though?
We'll see.
But for now,
let's talk about Yuri Lowenthal
as the voice actor and mocap of Peter Parker.
I thought he did an amazing job.
The first Marvel Spider-Man,
amazing game.
I played the second one.
You know, I was kind of disappointed in it.
Not gonna lie.
It was a good game,
but I was a little bit disappointed.
So that was the video game version of Peter Parker.
Let's go back to the live action version
with Andrew Garfield.
If I wanted the car thief off the street,
he'd already be off the street.
So why wasn't he then?
So this first outfit is from the Amazing Spider-Man 1
released in 2012.
Spider-Man 4 was supposed to be released 2011.
There was even a tweet about it
that was going to be released during that time.
Things happened.
Got a new Spider-Man,
which is Andrew Garfield.
This is the first modern Spider-Man reboot.
So they basically had to make a completely different
Peter Parker and Spider-Man in general.
So let's break down the outfit
because it's completely different
than all the other Spider-Mans combined.
Let's just start with his lower half.
As you can tell,
we got some dunks.
And then he has on some,
this was 2012 when it was released.
So these are some slim fits jeans.
The Levi's 501,
which are just classic fits.
I will say his denim,
a little more faded,
a little bit more wash.
That's because he's got on some Nike dunks
because he skates.
The slimmer fits definitely fits
Andrew Garfield's build a whole lot.
Let's go on to the top now.
You'll see where this gets a little crazy.
So it starts off with two pieces.
So it's a dark brown long sleeve.
And then he has on a contrasting light blue t-shirt.
Now, key part to Andrew Garfield's fit
is what he does to his long sleeve.
So he cuts a little hole
for his thumb to stick through.
That way it pokes through the jacket,
which you'll see later on.
So let's do that real quick.
By the way,
this is the first time I've ever tried the outfit.
Interesting choices for Peter
based on the costume designs.
Slip right here.
Oh yeah.
Now we're starting to look like Peter,
but we're not even close to done guys.
On top of this,
he has on a navy blue zipper hoodie.
This man was crazy layered up.
It wasn't even winter time
when that Spider-Man was filmed.
There was,
you can see green trees in the background actually.
So this was,
he was rocking this during the summertime.
All right.
So he's got on this
and then we have our top layer piece,
which is this military jacket.
This is crazy layers.
Four layers on top.
Oh my goodness.
All right.
Now the outfit's still not complete yet.
Okay.
He has on a very special backpack.
I found the actual backpack that they use
on the Amazing Spider-Man.
One, this ain't the exact same one,
but it's the same exact model.
And there are these straps right here
because this Peter Parker skates.
You'll see in plenty of scenes
where he puts a skateboard through here,
but the fit overall,
holy layer.
This man is layered up too much in my opinion,
but the fit is kind of dope.
Not gonna lie.
I can appreciate the choices that they made
because they really try to make this Peter
more of an outcast rather than a nerd.
The olive drab military jacket
tends to have that somber,
loner motif going on.
This jacket sort of has its own character.
So it's a good choice to really convey
how much of an outcast Peter is.
Now I did have another piece
to actually complete the outfit.
That is a camera strap.
It's on the way.
Two inch camera strap from Cult.
It's got this nice contrasty
kaleidoscope type of pattern.
It's really cool.
So yeah, he's wearing this.
He's at school.
He takes a weird picture of Gwen,
kind of all creepily.
He tries to protect this kid
that's getting bullied by Flash
and then Flash punches him
and then everyone leaves,
which I don't get it.
This Peter Parker is too handsome.
You really think all those people
would just leave Peter like that?
And then bro has the audacity
to kick Peter's camera?
I don't think so.
I don't think this Peter
would be much of an outcast.
Just saying.
I actually feel like
I've learned something
in terms of layering.
Layering contrasting colors
is something I've never done.
And then throwing on
another colored piece on top,
something I probably wouldn't do.
But how does he rank on this board?
Sorry if I'm all glistening.
Andrew Garfield has like
six layers on right now.
I feel like objectively
this is the best outfit so far.
Who knows?
There might be better ones.
That's because the layer is going on.
The brown peeking out.
It's gone out of the camera strap.
The hood adds a nice
elevation to the jacket.
And he skates.
I have a little bit of bias towards
because I've been skating
since I was a little kid.
But now let's move on
to Andrew Garfield's second outfit
from the second movie,
TASM 2 released in 2014.
So Andrew's second fit,
you'll see quite the drastic change
compared to the first TASM movie.
So they kind of changed
the style a little bit,
which is really interesting.
At least the bottom half
is relatively simple.
Very similar to all
the other Peter Parker outfits.
Got on the same Levi's 517,
which are bootcut jeans
in this dark wash.
Thank goodness, man.
I am dying.
Layer one off.
Layer two off.
Off with the dunks.
And this time he has on
some high top Converses.
So this is the bottom half.
Not too bad.
Very classic Peter Parker.
The top half is going to be very similar,
minus the jacket.
And the jacket makes
a huge difference, by the way.
It's just a white t-shirt
layered underneath
a navy blue crew neck.
But what to me
kind of ruins the outfit
is the jacket that he's wearing.
Peter wears a pea coat,
which to me
feels a little out of character.
When he graduates,
he's wearing a thrasher shirt,
some nice ripped short denim jeans.
This, I feel like it doesn't fit right.
Now I get it.
The scene I'm going to reference
towards is when he hangs out with Harry
and his date night with Gwen.
And he's wearing this.
I get it.
It's a little bit cold.
It's New York City.
Pea coats are very common in New York.
His first outfit
is actually warmer than this outfit,
which makes no sense.
I guess they're trying to go
for a more mature look
because he just graduated high school.
To me, still doesn't really fit his style.
I feel like they kind of nerfed his outfit
and his style for TASM2.
But his suit is dope.
I mean, it's not a terrible outfit.
It's just something I probably wouldn't wear.
I think just even a regular coat
is better than this.
Let's go rank his outfit.
This might be my least favorite outfit.
But it does look good on Andrew Garfield
because he's tall and slender.
But I don't feel like this is a jacket
this version of Peter would wear.
Definitely, I'm going to put it right here.
I think these other outfits
are certainly better.
It did my boy Andrew dirty for TASM2.
I really like Andrew Garfield.
I thought he was a great Spider-Man.
The Peter Parker, though, like he's too handsome
and he's too cool.
The surrounding characters don't like him,
which I do not believe at all.
The swinging scenes in TASM2
are absolutely the best.
Peak CGI.
That movie, I don't think it's as bad
as everyone say, but it's not good.
And there's sort of like a resurgence
of people saying they actually like the movie.
I watched it recently
and it's kind of a hard watch.
All of y'all that are praising
how it's such a great movie, come on.
Y'all sitting through the gone, gone, gone scene.
Stop the cat.
Let's go to the OG Spider-Man.
The only American Peter Parker, by the way.
Tobey Maguire.
Three movies to choose from.
We're gonna start with Spider-Man 2.
So this outfit is relatively simple.
There's not much I need to change right here
at the bottom half, at least.
So let me just grab the tops.
And it's really just this along
with his red helmet and a gray backpack.
But I don't have those, unfortunately.
All right, so we finished the fit
with a regular black jacket.
This one's just from GU,
but he does some really cool layering with it.
And then he has on this gray vest.
Already, the gray vest does a whole lot.
But he does one thing that I kind of like
that makes his Peter stand out a little bit.
He likes to pop his collars.
This was kind of the thing in the 2000s,
which makes sense because this came out in 2004.
And the scene I'm referencing
is his whole entire workday
up until he talks with Mary Jane.
So the Joe's pizza, getting fired, coming home.
What's the occasion?
And then taking out the trash, talking to Mary Jane.
Oh boy, yeah.
She really leads him on.
Ursula is a better girl for a minute.
But that's another topic.
Anyways, the outfit, actually, I kind of like.
I'm also biased because I love vests.
Layering really does a lot for an outfit.
And in this case, it just feels very cohesive.
Now, how does Peter and this outfit rank on the outfit board?
I don't know what it is about it.
I think it's too much for me.
I can't really think of any time
I'd wear a light gray vest like this.
The layering that he's got going on is not bad.
I like the pop collar.
I probably wouldn't do that.
But very reminiscent of his era.
I'm going to place it right here.
I think I might tweak this list.
Spider-Man PS4, you're going to have to go down.
Andrew Garfield just moves up a little bit.
I'm going to stick with that.
But now let's go on to our very last fit
from Spider-Man 3, released in 2007.
Give me some of that web action.
See you, chump.
It's not a full video if you do not include Bully McGuire.
Put some dirt in your eye.
Let me grab some stuff real quick.
My energy is already changing.
Think about Bully McGuire.
This is the Symbiote movie, okay?
So all black makes sense.
And for Bully McGuire's footwear,
he actually is wearing, I believe,
just some regular black dress shoes.
Mine are at home.
So I'm just going to put on some black Chelsea boots.
And then for his top half, pretty easy, all black.
He leaves a few buttons unbuttoned.
A little more confidence going on there.
You're looking fine, man.
Love that little giggle.
And then he has on a matching blazer to his trousers.
I don't have a full suit, like I said.
But you guys certainly get the point.
This is Bully McGuire, full sin.
Unbuttoning of a few buttons, very, very prominent
when it comes to Toby's more developed confidence
because of the Symbiote.
And for some reason, it makes him want to dance a whole lot.
The whole, he's trying to dance with Gwen,
show off to Mary Jane.
I can't do it.
This is actually a really good outfit.
Not gonna lie.
I wish they included,
it was just a little bit more accessories.
Maybe a handkerchief, just for a pop of color.
They didn't have that.
I feel like it would have helped
with the outfit a little bit better.
But otherwise, very, very solid fit.
So how does Bully McGuire stack up
to the rest of the other Peter Parkers?
It's certainly the second best outfit.
Now, Toby McGuire.
Obviously, I grew up watching Toby McGuire's Spider-Man.
So he's an OG.
He's OG to me.
As a character, you relate to him more
because he gets picked on, struggles with money,
struggles with girls.
Even though the Peter Parker in the comics, bro,
he pulled Black Cat, Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy,
plenty of others.
It just makes him more relatable,
which is why I like Toby.
How does this all stack up?
Is this accurate?
Let me see.
It's mostly right.
But I was a little too harsh on Andrew's fit.
Was that nostalgia at play?
Maybe I was glazing Toby's fit a little bit too much.
Because now that I'm looking at this outfit,
I'm going to put this above Tom's.
Did I get this pretty accurate?
And now to the Griffin MSI Museum,
where I took my son in Andrew Garfield's fit.
And my son absolutely loved this place.
I don't know if he knows what's going on yet,
but he just loves the colors.
This exhibit had the actual props from the movies,
like one of the claws from Doc Ock's arm,
his goggles,
some iconic moments throughout Spider-Man's history.
If you're in Chicago, definitely worth checking out.
Let's hope that brand new day is peaked.
