Our seat is a costly purchase for new parents,
but this weekend KG Law has 100 of them
ready to give away for free.
Joining us this morning to talk about it is Lawrence KG.
Thanks so much for joining us here this morning.
Thanks for having me this morning.
So this is the car seat.
Tell me about this car seat.
So I actually picked this car seat out myself,
and it's a Grego Contender Slim car seat.
The reason I picked this one out
is because it grows with the child.
So from when the child's an infant
all the way through when they're 50 to 60 pounds,
you just take out some padding here
and you use the same car seat all the way through.
That's excellent then.
And it's a good quality car seat.
Very smart of you.
What made KG Law wanna be a part of this contest
with giving away the car seats?
How did you choose even how we're gonna
give away some car seats?
Yeah, so KG Law is a law firm
that exclusively handles car accident cases.
And within that, I've unfortunately handled
some cases involving minor children
that were not in a car seat
or were not properly secured in a car seat.
And after doing some research,
I found that the chance of injury goes down by 71%
if the child is in a car seat and properly secured.
So I figured, you know, let's try to do something
for the community.
Obviously we can't fill the whole Metro Detroit area
with car seats, but we did what we can.
I purchased 100 of these car seats
and we're gonna give them out today
at our KG Law parking lot.
Handling that specific branch of law,
is it difficult to get people to use car seats?
Are you always surprised,
because that was a pretty high percentage,
that people aren't putting their kids in car seats?
A little surprised, but you know,
car seats are very expensive.
I think this individual car seat's around 300 bucks.
Also, getting these properly secured in the car
is also a whole other issue.
So is there a thing that people aren't,
they may have them, but they don't put them in correctly?
They're not properly secured, yeah.
So, you know, even me, I went through law school
and my first car seat was difficult to install.
Because of that, we're gonna have
the Southfield Police Department there today,
helping people install these car seats
to make sure that they're properly installed
and showing them how to do it.
So you mentioned today, exactly where is it
and how do we get involved?
So we have selected, I think we're almost at our max,
but there is a few car seats left.
So if you wanna get onto our website,
this is the last chance to register,
to apply for one of these.
But yeah, so we're gonna be giving out
100 car seats today to the lucky winners
in our Cageloft parking lot.
And we have a great event in store for everybody.
So when you say you have a few left to run,
this is a contest, right?
So how do people get involved or get signed up?
How do they become part of this so that they can win?
And if you only have a few left,
that's kinda like, I gotta get on track.
I mean, the event starts at noon,
so we only have a few left.
Most of them have been spoken for,
but there is a couple left.
If somebody wants to submit their application
for one of these, they can go onto our website
at 877kgcares.com, click the link
that shows the car seat giveaway,
and then you'll be redirected to enter your information
and hopefully win one of these car seats.
So when you say that it's an application,
are you reviewing them or is there something specific
that they're doing in a contest to win?
Because when I think of contest,
it's like I'm competing, I'm winning something,
but application makes me think you're reviewing something.
So this is our second annual car seat giveaway.
Last year, we had 400 applicants
and we passed that 100 car seats.
So you had a 25% chance of winning one of these.
But essentially, after you register,
it redirects to our partner website, 92ThroughTheMix,
and they essentially go through the registrations
and select the winners and help us select the winners.
So of the people, of the 300 others
that did not receive car seats last year,
how many people would you say, as compared to last year,
have actually signed up for that?
I'm sure now that you did it last year, they're aware.
Yeah, yeah, so we did have some more applicants this year,
but we still have a really good chance.
I think we had around 600 applicants.
So 100 out of the 600 people that registered
are gonna be getting a car seat.
That's not bad odds.
Yeah, not that too bad.
You know, hopefully in the future,
we'll be able to do more car seats.
This was within the budget this year to give out.
So hopefully we'll be doing more and more in the future
and keep this going for a long time.
And I like how you said that.
So this is a second one.
We're looking forward to the third and the fourth,
and you're helping families as well.
Tell us again about where they can reach you
and where it's going on today.
Yeah, so they can reach us at 877KGCares.com
or call in to 877KGCares.com.
And today we're having a celebration event,
giving out the car seats.
I'm so excited.
We have so much stuff planned.
We have a couple, we have two food trucks
that are coming in.
We have a bounce house,
a lady that's gonna be making balloons
and face paint for the kids.
It sounds excellent.
Just a bunch of good stuff going on today.
Well, I thank you so much for coming in.
Thanks for having me today.
And for making it possible for families
that maybe can't afford these car seats.
We'll put a link to it on our website at Fox2Detroit.com.
And we'll be right back.
