Maassluis is a city and municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland. The municipality has an area of ​​10.12 km² (of which 1.63 km² is water) and has 36,941 inhabitants (as of September 30, 2025), who are called Maassluizers. There are no other settlements within the municipal boundaries. In the 1980s, the slogan "Maassluis, First City on the Waterway" was coined as a form of city promotion. However, this label is topographically incorrect: Maassluis is not located on the Nieuwe Waterweg, but on the Scheur.
