Look at our chicken guys.
So good.
I guess in the home, we're having a co-working day.
Good morning.
Morning of truth.
I haven't done these heatless curlers in a while.
Oh.
I need to organize this better.
Okay, let's get changed.
I don't know if I showed this to you guys yet,
but this is my little scrub section in my closet.
I love this so much.
I have a lot of bright colors,
but I feel like it's too early to bust those out.
I don't know. Actually, maybe, maybe not.
Let's do the calmer of the purples,
and we're going to do this.
Guys, do I have time to make a smoothie?
I hope so.
I actually made these little smoothie packs yesterday,
which is basically just a frozen banana and strawberries.
What else is in a smoothie?
Is this enough?
I feel like there's more ingredients to a smoothie than this.
What is this?
I don't think it's just fruit and milk, no?
It's been so long.
It's like I'm making a smoothie bowl.
This girl's so thick.
I need a lot more milk.
Why is it so thick?
How much milk do I have to put?
Oh, finally.
Here is today's outfit.
I never think to put purple and black together,
but I kind of like it.
Obviously, my scrubs are from Fix.
I have an Aritzia Home Stretch undershirt that I always wear,
and then a black cardigan on top.
And I have the smoothie that we just made in the morning.
We have clinic.
We have morning clinic,
and I have to see all of my patients,
but then we have self-study scheduled for the afternoon,
and so I have a lot of fun plans for us to do that,
and just a lot of bits and bobs.
I'm going to be doing some medicine things,
a lot of non-medicine things,
and I'm going to be taking you guys along with me
for another week in my life as a resident doctor.
I'm so sweaty.
Everything is glued to me.
Hi, everybody.
I'm so tired.
What time is it?
It's still early.
It's 1.14,
so I had half day in clinic today,
so it was just the morning,
but my God, what an eventful morning that was.
Yesterday, I was marinating some chicken,
and I realized that my Asian butt didn't have any soy sauce.
That actually is like a hate crime, I think,
so I quickly stopped by on the way home
and got some oyster sauce, dark soy sauce.
Now, my ancestors will claim me once again.
Plans for the day, plans for the day, plans for the day.
The one thing about having a half day
is that with all this extra time,
I just become unreasonably ambitious
in what I can accomplish in a short span of time,
but, you know, it's good to be ambitious, you know?
Cute.
Okay, let's set it for probably like...
Oh my God, I just got a Zojirushi rice cooker,
which I'm so excited.
This is something that I wanted for a really long time,
so I justified this as a worthy purchase of my new place,
but I've never actually cooked rice yet in it,
so today is the day to do that.
Look at her.
Also still figuring out how to organize everything,
and right now, I have my massive bin of rice
here at the very top,
which doesn't make sense.
Oh my God, I can see this going poorly.
I'm going to have to find a better system
of where to put everything,
like where to do the pantry
versus my food container storage and all that stuff
because we don't have a very good...
We actually don't have a pantry at all here, period.
Is that going to get copyrighted?
Ooh, look at our chicken, guys.
Boom, boom, boom.
Some rice, black beans, corn, and broccoli.
And you can see I already took some nibbles off of this,
and then...
Ta-da!
And that is going to be late lunch
or a very early dinner.
It's 5.30.
I'm getting such deja vu
from when I did this in the last video.
It's like I was working on this exact project,
watching the FIFA,
I think it was Argentina-Cabo Verde,
a great team that was.
Okay.
Let us...
Okay, let's finish this up.
I think that might be enough.
Ta-da!
And here, everybody, is the final product
of our sycamore tree bark.
So we're going to be putting our completed artwork.
I'm thinking that I'm going to want to put it like this.
I'm sorry I made without you guys,
but this is my painting that I finished yesterday.
And you can see that on the horse,
there are these two little pines of Guinness.
I'm so happy that this is finally done.
It took freaking forever,
but I love having some art that I made.
Okay, so a bunch of reviewing
has been completed this evening.
We have the incredible Duo,
my double monitor setup,
and also my beloved iPad.
You'll see that I'm using this
instead of my Apple Pencil
because I think I lost it during the move,
and I'm in denial.
So I am refusing to buy a new one
because I think it's going to resurface somewhere.
Studying in residency is very interesting
because it's obviously very different from med school
where I don't have organized exams
that I am studying for.
So it was hard for me to kind of wrap my head around
how I best wanted to organize this.
And it's so funny because
one of the most common comments
that I have received since starting residency is,
oh no, Saab, no more study with me.
And honestly, I don't think people realize
that just because I'm done med school
doesn't mean that the studying stops.
If anything, now that I have an MD behind my name,
I feel like I need to be way more intentional
about how I'm organizing everything that I'm learning
because I still have a lot to learn,
but I have way less time now
that I have a lot of clinical responsibilities.
So today, for example,
I got a lot of teaching about COPD from my preceptor,
which was awesome.
And tonight I'm really just taking the time
to go over a lot of the guidelines
and the exact treatment pathways
so I can crystallize everything I learned
from my emphysema patient today.
And the app that I'm using to do so is My OG,
is the one that I've been using
since undergrad, med school, and now residency,
and is the partner of today's video, Notability.
So like you can see here, girl,
Notability and I go way, way back.
It's been my digital notebook for pretty much everything.
So my plan is to organize everything
by disease process and by specialty.
So whenever we have the academic half days,
my teaching sessions,
or my one-on-one learning with the staff physicians,
everything lives in one place
instead of being in a random note app
and pieces of paper everywhere.
So coming back to our COPD example,
my doc and I talked about many, many different things
very quickly after seeing this patient.
We talked about the different phenotypes of COPD,
the diagnosis, how we classify the symptoms,
the treatment pathways,
and it was a lot of jumbled knowledge
that I was trying to absorb into my brain.
But you can see for something like that,
I can keep the notes that I took in clinic
together with relevant clinical guidelines and pathways
by importing the PDFs and pictures
directly into Notability.
Then I can annotate everything with my,
for now, bootleg Apple Pencil,
which has honestly been so much easier
than writing things in a piece of paper
or printing things out.
And one feature that I'm using all the time
is Split View because I can use clinical guidelines
or even Google if I'm searching something up
on one side while writing my notes on the other
so I'm not constantly jumping between different apps.
And something else that's really cool
is that during teaching sessions,
obviously if your teacher allows it
and you have permission,
you can record the audio while you're taking notes.
Then later if I tap on something I wrote,
it'll jump back to exactly what was said
at that point in the recording,
which is amazing if we're going through things
really quickly and for those moments
when you inevitably miss part of the explanation.
And even though I'm kind of passively
putting things together,
Active Recall is still the best way that I learn.
And the way that I do that
is with Notability's Learn feature afterwards.
It can summarize my notes into smart notes,
generate quizzes and flashcards
based on things that I actually wrote,
and I can even chat with my notes
if I need something clarified
before clinic the next day.
And having this system has honestly made
building this new study routine
so much less overwhelming.
So if you're heading back to school
or you know you're just someone
that takes a lot of notes,
I definitely recommend checking out Notability.
And through the end of September,
Notability is offering a learn guarantee
where if you complete at least 20 learn questions
while preparing for your midterms
and if you don't feel more prepared afterwards,
they'll cover the rest of your semester for free.
If you want to check it out,
I'll have my link and my discount code
somewhere here and in the description box below.
Now, let us get back to work.
So this morning we had a really big OB day,
so we were learning about things
like fetal heart tracings
and practicing deliveries,
artificial rupture of membranes,
all that stuff.
And it's so crazy because I just stepped outside
and I think there's wildfires
in a neighboring province,
but it literally looks like
there's a sepia filter on everything.
It's so ominous.
It feels like the apocalypse.
I have probably a little bit less than an hour
before the afternoon teaching starts,
so I think I'm going to go grab a matcha
and finish editing this thing that needs to be done.
I'm going to try to make the most out of my time.
Did I even say what I was doing?
I don't think so.
So I'm currently out on a walk.
Our original plan of reading in the park
and all that stuff was thwarted
by the fact that it feels like 40 degrees
here in Toronto.
This is actually offensive.
Okay, first order of business
is that I'm trying to find some flowers
to put in the living room
and I found this really nice floral shop.
What's it catered for?
Just my living room.
Just trying to decorate my living room.
Hi there.
Can I please just do a strawberry matcha latte?
I will do 50%.
Morning, everybody.
It is our last day of clinic of the week.
Woo, we made it.
Oh my god, does it even fit?
We're matching.
Alright, so as always,
we are going to grab our keys,
grab our helmet,
and I'm going to bike to work
and I will see you guys after clinic.
Guys, I'm not going to lie.
I got absolutely smoked
on diabetes in clinic today.
Like obviously, you know,
everybody knows what diabetes is.
Everybody's heard of Metformin.
Everybody's heard of Ozepin.
But I realized a lot of these
nitty gritty details
like about screening and targets.
I just don't know.
So I'm going to use the embarrassment
of not knowing any of these answers
to fuel my self-studying.
It's Friday and I'm home
because we have an online
virtual session,
teaching classes kind of thing.
It's my one virtual session
in all of my orientation blocks.
So it's nice to stay home.
And you'll see that today
is a little bit different
because I have guests.
I have guests in the home.
We're having a co-working day.
Everyone say hi.
Hi.
Wait, where's my finger?
Julia, Isha, Caitlin.
It's really fun because, you know,
I get to do all my teachings and stuff.
But we're also going to go out for lunch
because we all have lunch break
at the same time.
And it's so nice being able to
work with the girls.
And it's nice so I'm not by myself
all the time.
It's really fun.
Okay, we're going to go eat some pasta.
Beautiful.
This is brunch.
Wait, is it one yet?
Do I have to attend this meeting?
It's 41.
Oh, okay. That's fine.
Now you can see,
everybody's really original
and we all got very different things.
Girls.
Alrighty, friends.
So it's now well into the evening.
Friday night, 9.30 p.m.
And things are getting rowdy
because I'm staying at home once again
with my friends.
Oh, it was so lovely.
It's the first time that
I had a bunch of them over
and they loved the space
and they were so excited to be here
to sleep over,
which was so sweet.
And we basically just had a co-working day
where we all sat around the table
and did our work.
I had some online classes.
But my plans for the weekend include
watching the World Cup Final.
But more importantly,
I have a new project
that I'm going to be working on.
I just came back
from walking this absolute beast
of a canvas down the streets of Toronto.
It was crazy.
I'm like almost 5'6".
And it's huge.
I'm so excited.
I have some really exciting plans for this.
And you're unfortunately
going to have to wait
until the next video
to see what I get up to.
So, thanks so much for watching
and I'll see you guys in the next one.
Bye!
