What does true luxury look like in Norway? In this video, we visit a rare waterfront home near Oslo — a private house by the sea, surrounded by nature. It features its own garden, dock, boathouse, and direct access to the Oslofjord. But what makes this tour truly special is that the owner himself shows us the property and shares its story: how he found the house, why this location is so unique, and what it means to live in privacy and peace just minutes from the Norwegian capital. This is Norwegian luxury — quiet, rare, deeply connected to nature, and almost impossible to replicate today. Would you live here?

This video showcases an exclusive waterfront estate in Snøreia, one of Norway's most prestigious residential areas. Located just minutes from Oslo, the property blends 1920s charm with modern restoration, offering a private sanctuary characterized by quiet luxury, nature, and seamless access to the capital via road or boat.
In Norway, real luxury is quiet.
It is living in your own home by the sea, surrounded by nature in privacy and peace,
while still being just minutes from Oslo,
in one of the most prestigious residential areas near the Norwegian capital.
Today we have a very rare opportunity to visit such a home
and hear its story from the owner himself.
I've been sailing outside here since I was a kid,
and I always wanted to find a property here on the water.
We had the property just behind here,
and then this property came for sale back in 2009.
The house is originally from the 1920s.
All houses at Snøreia were summer vacation homes.
So was this house too.
What draws our attention to is closeness to the water.
And then we were fortunate to buy it,
and then we started a project to upgrade the property.
The last upgrade of this house was done back in from 2009 to 2012.
Since the house was rather old at the time,
so we had to do all the proper things to make sure that the house
was good to go for the next 100 years.
We had done something to the outside, but it's mostly inside.
The atmosphere of the house is remaining as it was when we bought it,
but obviously now it's fully restored with very good craftsmanship.
Oslo, the capital of Norway, has more than a million people,
and this property is about 10-15 minutes drive from the city center,
and 15 minutes by boat to the harbor, so it's very close by.
It is considered one of the most desirable areas to live.
This plot in particular is very private.
You can be by yourself very easily, and it's nicely fenced,
and it's very secure, I would say.
Some of the trees are rather old,
and we've been very cautious about taking care of the old trees.
When you see the scenery, you can see the fjord through the trees,
which I think is much more beautiful than just seeing it in the open.
The roof, I think we had 27 tons of stones.
27 tons?
Yes, so it will last for a long time.
You have your own grave?
Two different kinds.
It's quite nice and sweet.
You can describe the house with a text, which gives you some feeling,
and you can photograph it, take pictures with drones and whatever,
and that's very fine, but I think that you have to feel it,
and let your emotions really fully appreciate what the property is like.
You can do it either in the late night, early morning, or midday,
so the light and the wind and the sun reflect on where you can sit and enjoy,
particularly the outside.
This is a special soil, that's why you get all these natural flowers
that have spread themselves over all these years,
particularly in the spring and early summer.
It's very beautiful.
Once you explore the property,
you'll find that it has a lot of areas where you can really contemplate
and relax and be private.
Can you make your own fish farm here?
I believe you can have fish here, you know,
freshwater fish that will clean the pond, but we haven't done that.
It's mostly for the ducks.
Here are the apple and the pears.
And pears?
Pears, one or two or three pairs.
It's amazing how many apples you get from these trees.
That's the garage.
You can have four cars in there.
It was purposely built when we bought the property,
and so it's easy access into the house.
And then we have an oversized dog.
There's no name, I think, but it protects the property.
So we're heading towards the main entrance.
We can go towards the scenery on the fjord.
So now we have a view of the Oslofjord through the window here, or the doors.
The doors that we see through are the original ones, nicely restored.
And once we then turn here this way, we can go into the formal living room.
Here you can make yourself comfortable.
This is a small dining area that's nicely situated,
both during the summer and the wintertime.
Lots of windows and nice scenery.
This is the room that I have mostly entered, because it's nicely lit.
It's quiet, particularly through the corona period, obviously,
where you didn't have access to the office.
That was my favorite room, and still is.
We just go through the small library.
Especially nice during the wintertimes, if you want to work on your PC or watch TV.
And this is the formal dining area.
And then from the dining area, we will go into the kitchen.
This is the family room where most action is happening,
with a fireplace and good access to the garden.
One of the nice features here is that you have the roof.
If it's windy or rainy, you can sit here and be quite pleasant.
You can imagine yourself early in the morning, when it's calm.
You can take your kayak out for half an hour, an hour, around the islands here.
You can jump in the ocean and get to swim,
and then you can go back into the house and have a nice cup of coffee.
I think that's quite unique.
I just try to make things as simple as possible in the house.
Even though it has three floors, five bedrooms upstairs,
it's still quite comfortable to live in.
It's well-functioning.
Beautiful view of the city of Oslo.
How many rooms do we have on the second floor?
We have five bedrooms and three baths.
We're just going from the second floor down to the basement.
It's apple juice.
It's apples from the garden.
Where do you produce it?
Because you have professional packaging.
It's Ekegård in Drammen.
How many bottles do you produce every year?
Six, seven hundred.
Six, seven hundred?
And this is a vintage collection?
How old is it?
Well, it's not supposed to be too old, but I can give you a taste.
How long can you keep it?
In a cold area, two or three years.
But the first 12 months is usually the best.
I'll give you a taste.
It's very tasty.
This is a nice place to sit and have your coffee.
And if you want to sit inside and have your afternoon tea, that's an option.
Super nice.
Tea salon.
There's a dock with a boathouse.
So that's like a leisure type of place you can stay at and you can park your boat.
And then there's more in place for two smaller boats.
Snøre is a nice area, particularly when you have smaller children,
because you have the school right by and also, you know, easy access to the city.
It's 20 minutes and you have bus services quite frequently.
And eventually you also have the underground to Fornebo, which will make it more easy.
But then you can obviously take the boat.
How far is it from Aker Brygge?
If you have a slightly more speed boat, it's 10-15 minutes.
The thing with the boat is that it's slightly, depending on the weather,
you need to have a permanent place where you can put the boat.
I usually use the bike.
How far is it from the center?
20 some minutes.
We have some exclusive areas in Oslo.
We do have Holmenkollen, Frognir, Bygdøy and then Snørøya,
that is a few minutes outside from Oslo.
Bygdøy and Snørøya, it's the only places in Oslo
that you have these big properties close to the sea.
At Bygdøy you have a lot of tourists because you have all the museums.
But in Snørøya it's more quiet.
It's an area for only the locals where you find the biggest properties in the seafront.
This is one of the most expensive places in Norway.
The price can lie between 80 million Norwegian kroners
up to 400 million Norwegian kroners.
To have a waterfront property is very unique and very rare these days
because it's not allowed to build it anymore
and they are not that often for sale.
Usually they go in generations and stays in the family.
