I Made Realistic Crochet Carnation Flowers 🌸 (You Won’t Believe They’re Handmade!)

Welcome to Samayra Knots. Today in this beginner friendly tutorial I'm going to show you how to crochet this beautiful carnation flower step by step. I say beginner friendly because it's the easiest flower to crochet, work up quickly and creates the most gorgeous ruffle petals. For this project you will need yarn, 3 mm hook, glue, floral stem or stick which you will see in the later part and wire. You can see the thickness here it's 0.6 mm thick. So let's get started now. Make a slip knot and chain 5. You chain 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Insert the hook in the very first chain and make a slip stitch to form a small ring. This creates the center of a flower. Now we'll work into the circle. Chain 3 and this chain counts as the first double crochet. Then you work up to 14 double crochets in the chain. So by the end you will have a total of 15 double crochets inside the circle. For a double crochet you yarn over the hook, insert the hook in the circle and yarn over and then yarn over 2 times which makes it 1 DC. So similar way you have to do 14 and then it will count as 15 DCs in total. Once you finish, join this round with a slip stitch to the top of the first in chain 3. Now moving on to the next round which is round 2. First chain 3, this again counts like the first DC and in the same stitch make one more double crochet. So for this round we keep on increasing a DC in each stitch. So in the next one you will make two double crochets. So this is one and this is two and then in the next one you again make two DCs. So one and this is the second one and continue making two double crochets in each stitch all the way around. Once you complete the round, join with a slip stitch in the first DC that's on the third chain. Now for the next round which is round 3. Again start with three chains then one double crochet in the same stitch. Repeat round 2 here which means we are increasing a DC in every stitch to build more volume and fullness. So in each stitch you make two DCs. So this is one and two in the same stitch and continue this all the way to complete round 3 and then join with a slip stitch. This will double your stitches and start creating a gentle ruffle. Now repeat the same process for the next round as well which means round 4 is exactly the same as round 3. First chain 3, make one double crochet in the same stitch and then two double crochets in every next stitch which is like one. This is the first double crochet and in the same stitch you make the second double crochet. So follow this pattern for the entire round. You'll notice the flower starts to curl and ruffle beautifully while doing this double crochet. That's exactly what we want for a carnation. It has to curl to form the petals correctly. I will make a quick tutorial for you. End this round with a slip stitch. Now for the final round we'll create the delicate petal edges. So you start with a single crochet then chain three and a single crochet in the next stitch. Then again chain three like one, two, three, single crochet in the next stitch and you repeat this pattern. So it's chain three, one, two, three, single crochet in the next stitch. You chain three again and single crochet in the next one. Continue this pattern all the way around the flower. This creates the soft texture flurry edge that makes the carnation look realistic. Once you finish this round do a slip stitch to join and fasten off. Secure the edge and cut off the yarn. Then you can hide the yarn like this. Just pull it with a hook and this ensures it secures the yarn in place. Now to shape the petals use a needle and the same colored yarn. Make small stitches around on the second row just like this. So you have to make the stitches right round. Once you reach the end pull the yarn gently holding both the ends just like this. This will form like a gathering of the petals. Secure it with a knot and the flower petals are now ready. So for the sepal make seven single crochet in the magic ring. This is one, two, three, four, five, six and seven. End it with a slip stitch and pull the yarn to tighten the ring. For the next round first chain one and make a single stitch in the same stitch and make one more. So each stitch will have two single crochets. This is one single crochet and this is the second one. So every stitch you have to repeat the same. Two single crochets in each stitch. This is two. Again this is one and in the same stitch second single crochet. So one and two. Now end this with a slip stitch. Now for the next round chain one and then make a single crochet. Next stitch make a single crochet and then every stitch you have to make a single crochet. Single crochet and in the next one single crochet. So you complete the round just with a single crochet in every stitch. So at the end of this round you complete this round with a slip stitch. Now for the next row start with the chain and single crochet in a stitch. Then continue with a single crochet in each stitch. So complete this round the same way. So round four and round five will be the same. Single crochet in each stitch. For the last round chain three and a single crochet in the next stitch. Again chain three, one, two and three, single crochet. One, two, three chains and a single crochet in the next stitch. And you complete this round in the same way. Three chains and a single crochet and at the end you end this with a slip stitch. Now for the petal start with a slip knot and chain 16. take a piece of the wire and make one slip stitch in the first chain. Then make two single crochets and you have to hold the wire along as shown. So one single crochet and then one more single crochet. So two single crochets. Now make three half dc. So one, two and three and five double crochet. So one, two, three, four and five. And hold the wire along as shown. Now make three half double crochet. One, two, three and then make one single crochet and two chains. One and two chains. Hold the wire and then make a single crochet on the other side. Then make three half double crochet. So one, two and three. Three half double crochet and then make five double crochet. Five double crochets. One, two, three, four and five. Now make three half double crochet. So one, two and three. Then two single crochet and end with a slip stitch. Cut off the yarn and secure it between the wires and twist the wires as shown. Now repeat the same process to create the other leaf. Once the leaves are ready, we can begin assembling the flower. Take a wooden stick or floral wire to form the stem. Apply a small amount of glue at the start and carefully insert the stick in the center of the flower. Hold it steady for a few seconds to ensure it is secure. Next, position the sepal at the base of the flower and fix it in place with glue. This helps create a clean and realistic transition from flower to the stem. And then start wrapping the yarn tightly around the stick starting just beneath the sepal. Add small amounts of glue as you wrap and keep the yarn smooth and firmly secured. As you continue, attach the leaves and keep wrapping until you reach the bottom of the stem. Allow everything to set. Shape the leaves as you want. You can bend them gently if needed.
