Tell me, how does it feel to be here in Santa Barbara?
It's overwhelming and amazing. It's overwhelming. It feels good to be back here.
You know, whenever I'm in town and I come to this film festival, it just feels good.
You know, you guys are such huge supporters of filmmakers and artists and their vision and storytelling.
So it's always, it feels good to be, you know, I'm from, I live in L.A.
So it's a nice little quick trip up the, you know, the PCH to get here.
So it's fun to always be back in Santa Barbara.
And tonight you're receiving Outstanding Performer of the Year award.
Yeah, that's pretty cool, right?
Yeah, pretty cool.
That's pretty fire.
What does it mean to you to see Sinners be the most nominated film of all time?
How does it feel?
I mean, it's really hard to put into words, you know, I'm still processing.
But, you know, something that you pour so much of your, you know, blood, sweat and tears into.
And, you know, Ryan Coogler, you know, being the incredible, you know, visionary that he is,
to see his work kind of cemented in cinematic history, you know, forever, it feels really good.
Can you talk a little bit about that incredible collaboration that you guys have?
The synergy?
Yeah, I mean, you know, over a decade of knowing each other and working together and trusting one another,
pushing each other, you know, beyond our limits and trying to get the best out of a situation.
It's rare, I know, to find a filmmaker, a partnership so early in my career.
But just extremely grateful.
All right, last question.
They want you to go in.
Yes, ma'am.
But we're very excited about your upcoming project, the reimagining of the Thomas Crown Affair.
Yes, ma'am.
Can you give us any hints about the project?
That it's, you know, can I give you any hints?
I think this one's a little higher stakes, I think, than the other films, a little more personal.
You're acting and directing.
Acting and directing as well, so I think that's something different, you know.
And that's something that I've been wanting to tell for a really, really long time.
It's a movie I've been wanting to make ever since I saw the Pierce Brosnan version in 99
and went back and found out McQueen and Faye Dunaway did it in 68 and just kind of wanted to put my spin on it.
Well, we can't wait.
Thank you so much.
If it's you, it's going to be fantastic.
Thank you, Michael.
Good to see you again.
Good seeing you too.
Thank you.
