____________________
Political commentator Brylin Hollihan discusses her book \"Make America Talk Again\" and the rise of conservatism among young people. She argues that higher education has been used to indoctrinate students with socialist ideologies, replacing patriotism and faith with guilt. Hollihan emphasizes the importance of free markets, nuclear families, and faith in combating modern mental health crises and political complacency.
A new wave of young people believe that faith matters, family matters, and free markets
matter.
Here to tell us more about it is Brylin Hollihan, a political commentator and author of the
new book, Make America Talk Again, which was just released today.
So Brylin, welcome.
Thank you for joining us today.
So we will discuss your book, but I want to first ask you about an opinion piece you wrote
in the New York Post, and it's titled, Nevermind Socialism.
The rebellious kids are all conservative and love America.
So tell us about the idea behind it.
Yeah, writing an opinion piece against socialists and the capital of socialism does not make
me the most popular person in this city right now, but it was important because this fight
has been going on for decades.
So the left intentionally indoctrinated higher education during the hippie movement.
They slipped in activists and professors' clothing to feed us the lie for generations
upon generations that not only is capitalism wrong in their eyes, but it's actually evil,
and that's what we've been taught.
So they've replaced this whole idea of capitalism with socialism, and now we're seeing the offspring
of it with some of this trend towards that with some of their modern day candidates,
and we're going to call it out.
So I mean, why is it conservative kids that you specifically talk about and not more progressive
or democratic meaning?
Yeah, so I think we started asking questions, pretty good questions, like why is it so dangerous
to be patriotic?
Why is it so dangerous to believe in God?
Why is it so dangerous to support nuclear family?
All of these things we were told were evil and oppressive and wrong and just a part of
this big capitalist scheme.
Well, at the same time, when we did our own research, we realized that capitalism is the
biggest anti-poverty academic idea, and there's no bigger community building drive than faith.
No government program could do that.
They tried to convince us through indoctrination, whether it was social media or movies or even
education, that somehow it was this big, evil, oppressive thing, capitalism.
And honestly, when you think about it, that's actually what socialism is, because they're
trying to convince us that government is our God, and we both know that's not true.
So you also talk about complacency in the article.
Is that the enemy of gratitude?
Definitely.
And a lot of this has been trying to switch gratitude for America with guilt.
So we all know that our country is being invaded with people that chant death to America.
At the same time, our classrooms are being filled with curriculum of America's evil.
So when it comes time for America's 250th birthday a few weeks ago, I wasn't shocked
that so many young people weren't singing happy birthday, because that's not what they've
been taught.
They've been taught this complacency, that we should not be grateful instead.
We should feel guilt for America.
And this guilt makes us think, oh, socialism is paying back our debt to this country.
And in return, it's actually ripping apart the whole country that people literally build
rafts out of garbage to flee socialist countries to come here.
And they're certainly not going to want this country to turn socialist when they get here.
So how do we turn around this environment with these ideologies within kids?
How do we turn this around so that we strive to defend our freedoms, you know, instead
of handing them to others?
We stopped rolling over.
I'll tell you, I debated on 10 campuses last year, and I had some odd things happen.
So I was doing a meet and greet after a speech, I think in Arkansas, and keep in mind, pretty
red state, an SEC campus, should be as conservative as it gets.
And the student in line is whispering, and I can't figure out what she's whispering,
like, are you in witness protection?
What's going on here?
Like, why are we being so cloak and dagger?
And she's not trying to get her name publicized.
And I said, well, what's wrong?
She said, I don't want people to know that I'm at a Christian conservative event.
I might get kicked out of my sorority, I might get kicked out of SGA, my clubs might drop
me.
That kind of, you know, rolling over, self-censoring is what's letting the socialists take power.
Another example, I'm at Ole Miss a few weeks later, again, a conservative campus, also
in the free United States of America, but specifically a red area.
And they decided that this particular student in the Q&A line said that he was writing two
versions of all of his essays.
And when I asked him why he would do that, why he would do double the workload for the
same grade in the end, he said, well, the first time I write it, it's what I believe.
The second time I go back and edit it to make myself sound liberal so I get a good grade.
Every time we do that, we're cowing down to them and letting them win.
And maybe speak to us about faith as well.
How does faith play a role in all this?
It's the most important role of all of this.
I mean, why is our generation the most suicidal, the most depressed, the most anxiety-ridden,
the most medicated generation?
It boils down to one thing, culture has told us to throw God out the window, to throw family
out the window.
Therefore, we've tried to replace this God-shaped hole in our hearts with anything but God,
with chase your own truth, with live your own destiny, with follow what feels good.
And that's brought us to where we are today.
That is socialism.
And I think this whole idea of you can do what you want to, this liberation, as they
like to call it at their DSA meetings, is the opposite of it.
It's chaining you down to literal guilt, not just this oppressive guilt of America.
And it's honestly detrimental.
Faith is the solution to all of that.
Okay, if faith is as important as you say, then how do people keep that faith?
If every time you turn on the TV, it's everything that is against that, every time you watch
a show or go online, how do you keep that faith against this whole environment?
So the first thing I say to young people at some of these campus debates, when they say
they want to start getting more involved in politics, is something that probably is not
on the front of the brochure when they welcome you to politics.
It's you're going to get booed.
And you can tell, they kind of look at me like, what, are you trying to scare me away?
And I'm not.
I'm just being straight up honest with you.
I'm not sugarcoating anything.
You're going to be booed.
You're going to get pushback.
You're going to see the same things that you see on your TV screen today.
Keep pushing forward.
If I canceled, if I stopped, if I cowered every single time we got a death threat, you
would never see me.
We couldn't be doing this interview.
We wouldn't be.
