He highlights a mix of world-class terrain parks, powder riding, and unique cultural experiences to help riders maintain their progression year-round.
Hey what's up everyone, Kevin here. In this video I'm going to share with you my top five
favorite summer snowboarding destinations. It can be difficult to find places to snowboard
through the summer months, but over the last few years I've had the chance to travel to lots of
different places and I think I've found the five best places to get your snowboard fix and keep
that progression going all through the summer. Number five on my list is a spot in the northern
hemisphere in Zermatt, Switzerland. Zermatt has one of the best terrain parks. It's up at 12,000
feet in the Swiss Alps and what makes Zermatt so special is first the terrain park. It's got
a great terrain park with a variety of features for all skill levels. There's also a few runs
where you can work on your turns and progress as a snowboarder, but beyond that it has some of the
best views in the world and also an incredible town down in the valley where you can stay or go
out to eat. All around snowboarding at Zermatt is an incredible experience and that's why it's at
number five. My number four spot on my list is another place in the northern hemisphere and it's
at Timberline Resort in Mount Hood, Oregon. Timberline is known in the summer months as being
the absolute best place for park riding if you live in the U.S. It's where a lot of top athletes
come to train and there is a variety of park features and parks in general for all levels.
So if you're a high-end rider you can come up and train and hit some of the biggest jumps or rails,
but if you're just a casual snowboarder they also have beginner parks and just runs where you can
work on your turns and have a good time for the day snowboarding. One thing that I forgot to mention
is that this summer I'm actually going to be snowboarding at Mount Hood collaborating with the
High Cascade Snowboard Camp. So if you want to come out snowboard with me, get some one-on-one coaching,
and even be in a Snowboard Pro Camp video, there's details below in the description of the dates and
how you can sign up. Hopefully see you on the mountain this summer. Timberline also has some
incredible free riding and a summer solstice party with views that are some of the best in the world.
For number three we're going down to the southern hemisphere to Perisher, Australia. Australia is
definitely one of the most underrated places for snowboarding. Perisher is about five hours south
of Sydney near the town of Jindabyne and Perisher is a big resort with lots of runs, free riding,
and terrain parks. Every time I've been to Perisher we've had a mix of powder riding and sunny park
days. The highlight to me of snowboarding in Australia is the unique landscapes, the local
animals, but overall the vibe of the people just make it an incredible experience. Number two on my
list is another place in the southern hemisphere and it's Corralco, Chile. Corralco is about five
hours south of Santiago near the town of Malacuejo and Corralco in my opinion is an incredible just
undiscovered hidden gem for snowboarding. What makes Corralco special in my opinion is the free
riding. So you have a variety of terrain for free riding through the trees or through open bowls
and it's all very unique, accessible, and fun terrain to ride. While I was in Corralco we mostly rode
powder but besides that the town of Malacuejo has some incredible things to explore, really friendly
people, delicious food, and some of the best views in the world. For my number one spot for summer
snowboarding we're staying down south and going to Cardrona, New Zealand. New Zealand is an incredible
place to visit for many reasons but what keeps me coming back every year is the snowboarding at
Cardrona. Cardrona is a resort on the south island about a 40 minute drive from Wanaka
and it's a huge draw for international snowboarders of all ages and ability levels. You'll have people
out there training who are on national teams. You also just have locals coming up to ride and have
a good time so it's an incredible mix of people all out to snowboard and progress with their
riding. In my opinion Cardrona has the best terrain park of anywhere for the summer months
with an excellent variety of features ranging from beginner through to expert. They also have
excellent chalets to hang out in. My favorite food there is definitely the veggie pie
but overall you can free ride. If you're a beginner there's tons of beginner terrain
and just something for everybody. So those are my top five places for summer snowboarding.
If there's somewhere I missed it'd be great to hear from you guys down in the comments.
