The world's most popular sport is collabing with the world of art.
The project's a joint effort between the FIFA World Cup 2026 New York, New Jersey host committee
and Powerhouse Arts. 23 artists from all over the world were selected to create sculptures
that reimagine the iconic soccer ball. The whole idea was to bring in colors together to represent
our identity and ethnicities and what we represent. When everything's all put together
in this World Cup, the momentum is already crazy here. I feel very happy that I'm part of it now.
And fans can view these one-of-a-kind pieces at public spaces throughout New York and New Jersey.
It was just kind of amazing that the host committee was like, your ball should be here
because I know this area and I think it's quite special. And there's so many different people
from different communities here. People are sitting and having their lunch break here,
or they're kicking a soccer ball with their kids, or they're skateboarding with their friends,
different ages, different households, different stuff.
As it reminds everyone that soccer is taking over the summer.
I'm just excited to see who walks by here, who ends up kind of being intrigued by the sphere.
It's of course going to remind them of the World Cup, but then like,
but like, okay, why is this like strange texture on it? Like it's like cybernetic tumbleweed,
like what is it? You know, New York is a melting pot city,
and we are having the world's biggest athletic melting pot event here. And it's important because
I think soccer is a sport that's rising in America and has been. And New York is,
I think, the temperature taker for America. It's a very global event. It's like about
embracing other cultures and other teams. Like it's kind of like a, like a sports version of
the UN to a certain extent. I think New York City brings from Latin to Asia, to North America,
to Europe, to Africa all together. And I think the selection of artists with the locations were
perfect. So it'll be another, you see the sports and you see the arts and you feel the culture.
