What's up, YouTube? You already know what it is. My name is Darius Riles, and I'm going to teach you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you. Yeah, you.
How to play period rules. Very, very simple, y'all.
So, this is how period rules work.
Very simple. You don't have to play four. You don't have to play five.
You can play as many as you want.
But you've got to know how to play your rudiments, eh?
If you want to get in college and be on the band and on the percussion.
Alright, so, let me tell you what a check pattern is.
A check pattern is the same thing what your hands are doing in period rules, but without the diddles.
A diddle is just like this.
Two notes.
Alright, so the first part. So, let me show you the check pattern first.
The check pattern is...
You see, that's the check pattern, right?
Alright, now let me play the period diddle.
All I did was add an extra note.
See, look. So, let me combine it.
Enough of the check pattern.
I'm going to test you when we get to the end of the video.
Alright, so, the first thing of playing the period rule.
You can't forget your accent.
An accent is just one loud note.
See, not that hard.
But you got to make sure all your fingers are on the stick, though.
Make sure your fingers are always on the stick if you want to get that rebound.
Or not. You can get a rebound or not.
No rebound.
Rebound.
Like, you know how you play basketball, right?
You get a rebound.
You're bouncing the ball up and down.
That's what this is.
But...
Well, I don't even know how to explain it like that.
But, let's get into the period rules.
So, after this one accent, it's a tap.
A tap is one soft note.
You see that?
So, it's right, left.
Alright, easy, right? Easy.
So, it's right, left.
Alright.
Now, the next part is when you add one more extra note.
One.
Two.
Three.
And.
One.
And.
One.
Two.
Three.
And.
Right, left, right.
Now, stop.
Pretty simple, right?
That was only the check pattern.
Now, let's get to the actual period rule part where we add one more note.
One more note.
Right, left, right, right.
And then stop right there.
Now, after we do that one more time, we're going to go to the left period rule.
This is only the right period rule.
You still got, well, short ways to go.
But, let's get back.
Right, left, right, right.
Again.
Two.
Ready.
And.
Right, left, right, right.
Now, hold on right there.
If you need to pause the video to practice on your period rules, go ahead.
Go ahead.
Just practice on your period rules.
But, let's get back into it.
Right, left, right, right.
Again.
Two.
Ready.
And.
Right, left, right, right.
Now, let's get into the left period rule.
It's the same thing.
It's that you just start on the left hand.
Now, remember what an accent is?
A.
That's an accent.
Remember what a tap is?
That's a tap.
Alright, so let's do, let's just do one note on the left hand.
Ready.
Go.
Ready.
And.
That's it.
One.
Two.
Ready.
And.
Two.
Ready.
And.
Now, stop right there.
Now, let's add a tap on the right hand.
One.
Two.
Ready.
And.
Left.
Right.
Ready.
And.
Left.
Right.
Ready.
And.
Left.
Right.
Pretty simple, y'all.
Pretty simple.
Now, let's add, let's, we got two more notes and then we're completely finished.
We're completely finished.
So, let's add one more note on the left hand.
One.
Two.
Ready.
Play.
Left.
Right.
Left.
And.
Right.
Left.
And.
Left.
Right.
Left.
And.
Left.
Right.
Left.
And.
Left.
And.
Right.
Left.
And.
Now, let's add that one more note.
We need one more note.
Now, let's add that one more note.
One.
Two.
Ready.
and left, right, left, left, 1, 2, ready, and left, right, left, left, 1 more time, 2, ready, and left, right, left, left.
That's it! That's it!
Now let's combine the right parallel with the left parallel.
Pause the video for about 5 minutes and then keep practicing.
But for now, we're going to continue.
So, let's go over the right parallel again.
We start with the right hand.
1, 2, ready, and right, left, right, 1, again, 2, ready, and right, left, right, right.
Now let's go back over the left parallel.
We worked on it like, I don't know, 5, 10 minutes?
Alright, 1, 2, ready, play, left, right, left, left, again, 2, ready, play, left, right, left, left.
Now let's go a little faster. Let's go a little faster.
Alright, 1, 2, I'll do the same tempo.
Alright, 1, 2, 1, 2, ready, and right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left, right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left.
Alright, a little more. We're going to do it one more time, then get faster.
1, 2, ready, and right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left, right, left, right, right, left, right, left.
Now let's speed it up. 1, 2, 1, 2, ready, and right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left, right, left, right, left, right, right, left, right, left.
Right right left right left right right right left right
and stop
