We trace the vault from its construction by architect James Wyatt in 1810, through its forgotten dead: Princess Amelia, the children George III buried, and Princess Charlotte of Wales, the young heir whose death in 1817 rerouted the entire succession to Queen Victoria. We cover the accidental discovery in 1813 of a separate Quire vault holding Henry VIII, Jane Seymour and the executed Charles I, and the opening of Charles I's coffin.
