Let's go to another potential trade here. Let's move over to the San Diego Padres
and Mason Miller, who seems to be like the meme of this poor shitting in the house.
That's like the decrepit house. I mean, they've got the best relief pitcher in baseball.
They traded everybody to get them. I don't know that they even have anything left to trade for.
We know that the Padres are going to get uber aggressive at the deadline, Tom,
because they do every year. I don't like what I see from San Diego. I think Arizona
may be better than San Diego this season. They definitely can pitch and they definitely can
get outs. And if they get to the end of the game, great. But they haven't hit all year.
Machado is really not busted out of his funk. Tatis took him a long time to get going.
Would they even consider doing this? I mean, Miller moved again.
Tom doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. It doesn't make any sense to me
considering what they gave up to get him. If they were to trade him, I don't think that
would be the only move that they would do, because you can't just trade him and say,
OK, we're going to give up the best aspect of our team because, again, the pitching staff,
the starters are not good. The offense is terrible. They're one of the worst scoring
offensively. The best thing that they have on the team is the bullpen with Mason Miller.
So if you give him up, you have to trade everything else and then kind of reset and
go from there, because ultimately competing with the Diamondbacks and the Giants are the
biggest two issues. They're not going to be with the Dodgers. And the Dimebacks look pretty good
enough to actually give them some hits. So you have to make more moves by the Padres to reset
to the next few years. Generally, Arizona is an active team every trade deadline. So I do wonder
if they would be in on some players, too. And they seem I know their lineup isn't great seven
through nine, but they they have OK pitching. They have a pretty good lineup. They're about
a 500 team. And that's exactly what they were a few years ago. They got hot. They went to the
World Series. Meanwhile, the Phillies are one of those teams that could be in on Mason Miller.
They lost Brad Keller. But this is like apples and oranges. These are like two different
planets, Mason Miller and Brad Keller. I don't tie these two together at all.
But the Phillies, Tom, every year they add a guy. They added David Robertson. They added Duran.
They took a few years ago. They added Kimbrel. We know the Phillies just going to add a bullpen
piece. This seems like a lot, though, to go for. It would be a haul to get Mason Miller back and
all like multiple, what, three, four of the top prospects that the Phillies have in their system
just to even whet the whistle of the Padres.
