Now we can cross to Madrid and speak with our correspondent Sarah Morris.
So obviously Spain is super excited to be in this final. What's the atmosphere like there?
It's electric and there's still hours to go but there are tens of thousands of fans out
across Spain all booking a place in front of either one of those giant screens.
We've got for instance three now set up by the local authorities here in Madrid or in the bars
and I can tell you they're going to have to get a lot of ice in because it's 34 degrees here in
Madrid. The fans don't want to miss any of the action. This is the team, the rival that they
wanted to face off against. There are about almost half a million Argentinians who live in Spain
so the friendly rivalry will be top in this country and of course they know Argentinians
and the way they play football of old because of course Lionel Messi spent most of his professional
career here at Barcelona where he was the star until 2021. We've got a lot of those Argentinian
players also playing in the Spanish league in Atletico Madrid for instance. The likes of
Julian Alvarez who's known as the spider and Giuliano Simeone exactly what they're up against
saying to me they have to watch Messi. He might be 39 years old but he's incredibly dangerous.
Now Sarah there's been a lot of talk about this 19 year old Spanish soccer prodigy Lamine
Yamal. Can you tell us a bit more about him? He turns 19 at this World Cup. He is the star
that everybody absolutely adores. The children are walking around with his name on their backs
to support this team. Lamine Yamal really has been performing well in this tournament but perhaps
his best is yet to come and in a way he represents this new up-and-coming team that many
Spain fans think is another golden generation just like the one that won the World Cup back
in 2010. They are already the European champions and Spain fans think they can go all the way
and what they say about this team is that Lamine Yamal is an absolute star to watch
but it is a game that has in this tournament been all about the collective and Luis de la Fuente's
team is chopped full of stars and they all play and have been admired for the way they play
together conceding in this tournament just one goal and I hope they can pull the stops out
tonight to win that second World Cup. The first one in 16 years. Sarah thank you so much. We'll
all be waiting to see if Spain can pull it out later on this evening.
