Jay here from Stratford Paddock, this is the Paper Talk. As you can see we're in the studio,
we are live, so get involved in the chat and the comments. We're going to be talking about
all the latest Manchester United news, all the latest Manchester United transfer news. There's
still loads of transfer stories due in the round. It seems that Manchester United's business
has not finished this summer, nor should it have by the way. We'll be getting into that. Also,
we're not quite done with England yet. There's still a lot of the fallout from Thomas Tuchel's
shock horror, some people blaming the kid from Manchester United who didn't play one minute in
the tournament for England's exit. I kid you not, we'll be getting into that as well. Good to see
so many people in the chat already. Rob Clark, Akash K is here, Steve M as well. Make sure you
are all hitting that like button, you wonderful people. Right, let's talk about Sander Berger,
because we mentioned him on Monday in the Paddock podcast. We were asked to name players
that we thought could do a job. I picked Sander Berger and I think it was Yama Luke from Brentford.
Graham Bailey here for Team Talk is saying Manchester United are once again discussing
fully midfielder Sander Berger internally as they continue refining their midfield shortlist. With
Team Talk understanding Norway International is emerging as a serious option for Michael Carrick's
squad. Now, how true this is, I don't know. Team Talk gets some things right, some things not so
right. Even if this is right, it doesn't mean that we're definitely going to get him or that we're
definitely going to put a bid in. It just seems that there's some sort of discussions ongoing.
Let me know what you think. Does he tick your boxes? He's a little bit older in here. I wouldn't
It does feel as though United are looking at players that can come in and do a job straight
away. Sander Berger presumably can. He's been playing in the Premier League for the last
however many years, so I don't think he'd have any time struggling to adapt. I know
Manchester United are a bigger club than Fulham, but you'd expect him to come in and be able to do
a job. Is he good enough though? That is the main question. Is he a player that's going to be able
to move Manchester United forward? Because we spoke about him on the Paddock podcast and again
off the bar, and there was a comment from a couple, there was one comment, sorry, a comment
from a couple of people. No, there's one comment from a Norway fan who said he's a decent player,
but he's in United levels. Let me know what you think. Get involved. Give me your thoughts.
Morning, Jay. Watch along for the United game tomorrow, says Gareth Robinson, 1442. Hell yeah,
we are going to have a watch along for the Manchester United game tomorrow. Manchester
United playing Wrexham in Helsinki tomorrow. Joe is going to be over there. He's going to be
chatting to journalists. He's going to be in the mix zone. He's going to be doing all that good
stuff. I will be here in the studio with a few other people and we'll be doing a watch along
for it. And it feels like proper football is back. Finally, forget all that dross, the world court,
who cares? This is real football. Yeah. This is football heritage, Manchester United versus
Wrexham in a pre-season friendly. So we're going to be here for that. Mate, what's all that?
A lot depends on the price. Fulham are happy with, says Akash K. Abhinav Verma says he's
definitely good for Premier League, that burger dude. CJO James Johnson, Santa Burge is Santa
Notch's nephew. Okay. Let's talk about Marcus Rashford because there's a tweet from David
Ornstein, which depends on how you look at it as to what is going to happen with Marcus Rashford.
So we'll read it. Marcus Rashford, 40 million exit clause for all bar Liverpool and City,
ended July the 15th. Any United sale now must be negotiated. Returns to training after the break.
Approaches will be considered. 28 year old already injecting more lucrative options,
otherwise stays. So there's a chance he could stay. If no one comes in for him, no one's willing
to pay the whatever money United would deem fit to sell him, then he will stay at Manchester United.
Could it be another loan move? I think it might be. I think that we might end up seeing Marcus
Rashford go out on loan towards the end of the window. I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes
in and Rashford just says, you know what, if I'm not going to feature here, but if I haven't got a
future under Michael Carrick, then I will go out on loan again. He may, he may have a future under
Michael Carrick, though. We don't know what conversations are going on between the Manchester
United head coach and Marcus Rashford. We know obviously things deteriorated Ruben Amirim to
the point where he wasn't even in the squad. However, Ruben Amirim is long gone. Michael
Carrick is in. Michael Carrick has worked with Marcus Rashford when Carrick was a coach. He's
played alongside Marcus Rashford when he was a player. So he may be willing to work with Marcus.
He may see that there's a player that he can get a tune out of, especially when we are
supposedly in the market for a left-sided player, whether that's a left back or a left winger,
the Southern Manchester United want to strengthen our left flank. So maybe Michael Carrick looks
and goes, well, I've got a player of where we were. No, I can get a tune out of, I'll stick with him.
I still get the impression. I still think Marcus Rashford will go. And like I said earlier,
I think it will be a low move, but I'm not ITK. I don't know.
Matt Wick says he's turned down more money yet. People will still try not like all he cares.
That's all he cares about. Rashford on an offer from Fenerbahce says either. Yep. I don't think
that's going to happen. Rashford, in my opinion, would take that P I double S says Eric, the king
like the idea of age profiles of Telemann and Berger coming in while we get the younger players
like Kone, J and T Fletcher, Thwaites, et cetera, up to speed says Kevin credibly. Yeah, I get your
point there. I think there's nothing wrong with that. Having players that can come in and do
a job for the next few years when you've got the likes of the Fletchers, the likes of
Jim Thwaites coming up through the ranks, they're probably a season or two away from really being
sort of in and around the first team. They might get a few minutes, but I don't think they're ready
just yet, but they could be in a season or two. And you'd still have Telemanns and Berger. We got
him around Santos is a little bit younger. I think he's just turned 22. So he's a bit younger, but
yeah, I'm not against that. I don't think you can't, you should ignore players that are in the
late twenties. I know there was this report. One of the INEOS had this policy. They were only going
to buy on the 25 year olds, which was just dismissed almost immediately when they went out
and got a new Zen Mazraoui, I think it was 27 at the time. And I think the likes of a boomer and
Kenya have both been older, both older than 25 and bought them. I think so anyway. So yeah, I don't
think that's particularly true. I understand looking at younger players, but I said this on
the, off the bar podcast, Manchester United should be looking at the next season or this season as an
opportunity. There's an opportunity to be involved in the tile race. I'm going to say it now. Yeah.
City have got a new manager. Liverpool have got a new manager.
Arsenal haven't got a new manager and are the reigning champions, but they've got issues.
I think William Saliba is out for the next five months. So, and even then after he comes back,
how long is it going to take him to get up to speed? So you basically missing arguably your
best player, certainly one of them for half the season that is going to affect Arsenal.
Plus there's going to be the added pressure of trying to regain the title and retain the title.
They've never done that. They've never retained a Premier League title. So there'll be a lot
of pressure on me. Can't tell us as men that it seems to be as well. You look at other clubs as
well. We've been a bit of a change over there. Spurs, if you are counting Chelsea. So it's all
happening here. And I think there's a, there's a real opportunity for Manchester United. If we get
this window, right? I think so far, the window has been very good. I still feel we're missing a
couple of players. Could Sander Berger and another player fix that problem? Is that all the play
going to be Marcus Rashford staying? I don't know. Let me know what you think. Get involved in the
chat on the comments. Daniel's more says Berger is a much better fit than belabor gives us a player
over six foot as well as prem experience. If you're good enough, you're not too old enough.
So it's kind of incredibly, yeah, fair enough. I don't mind Sander Berger. If we get a left wing
left back and a backup striker says, if there's a kiosk, if selling Rashford meant we buy
Somerville, I'd rather keep Rashford to be honest, says Greedman. Yeah. Somerville is,
he's all right. I get why there's not a mad sort of clamor for him. I think he's a decent player.
Um, his numbers are fine. They're all right. They're not mentally impressive. I think when
you watch him, he's a good player. He's good on the ball. Is he the answer to the United problems?
No. Could it be a squad player? Yeah, potentially. Uh, right. Let's get into the England thing
because it's not going away. Is it? So Craig Hope did this story. Um, and it said, um, inside story,
how England's World Cup unraveled, just a load of sort of stuff in it about what was going on
in the camp and all the rest of it. Now, a lot of people are upset with the star who slopes
out every game. There's a bit about Cobby menu in it that has ruffled a few feathers,
where he basically said that Kobe menu, he said that too cool was going to play rice and menu,
I think, or Anderson and menu. Sorry. When rice was injured, he didn't like what he saw from menu
in training. And then there's a bit about how menu is sort of one of the first out of the dressing
rooms onto the coach. And he got his headphones on and he, he, the sort of figure that he calls
isn't great and all the rest of it. So United fans are fuming about this because he's interpret it
as he's having a dig at menu. He's almost blaming menu for the failings of this England camp or for
the failings of this England team, a player who didn't kick a ball. And I think most United fans
would agree should have featured at some point. The Craig Oh, I said, sort of backtracked on this
and said, how can my United fans interpret this as a big at menu? It just shows the tribalism
that exists around England. We're simply reporting what happened. My own sake is that I thought he
should have played. He can handle the ball in tight areas, which is what England needed.
That is not what came across in that article. I read the article, it's behind a paywall and
he's accusing a lot of people of just being reactionary about reading it. I read it. It
felt like a dig to me. That's how I interpret it. Now, Craig Oh, I forgive me. I've got to
apologize because I said, I wasn't going to talk about him the other day because every time Jude
Bellingham does anything good in an England shirt, which is a lot, the, the article from Craig Oak
comes up where he basically said that Thomas Seukel should leave Craig Oak, leave Craig Oak,
leave Jude Bellingham at home. Yeah. Leave Jude at home. A ridiculous idea, a ridiculous article,
just completely nonsensical. Leaving your best player at home for squad harmony.
Behave, behave yourself, son. That is ridiculous. And I'd said, I'm fed up with everyone dragging
this out. I know I'm dragging it out. So I'm a bit of a hypocrite, but I wanted to,
because I wanted to make the point that Craig Oak isn't someone whose opinion or his
journalism particularly strikes me as insightful. On the Manu front and how he's trained and all
the rest of it, there is an article by David Ornstein, I think gone out today. We've quoted
some of it here and he spoke about, he speaks about Manu. He does a big article on the England
camp, how it was the behind the scenes, Seukel and all the rest of it. He says the use of Manu
has been particularly big talking point. It was never clear what Seukel's plan was for the player.
I think that's fair to say. Manu saw defender Rhys James being played in midfield instead of
him towards the end of the tournament and failed to get minutes, even when Rice was clearly
struggling for fitness, despite a source close to the camp insisting he had trained well. So
Ornstein, who I've certainly put more in his journalism than I would Craig Oak,
insisting that Manu trained well, it just felt that Seukel didn't, for whatever reason,
want to use him. And I still don't get it. But I think this is the day that we all just move on
from it. We'll say we all move on from it. Seukel's going to give a press conference later. He's going
to get asked about it. He'll come up again. And we've still got another England game. We've got
England versus France, where if Manu doesn't play that, you'll think, well, what on earth is going
on? If he can't even play in a glorified friendly, I actually think he might not, you know, I think
Seukel might look at it and go, if you play him in that and he plays well, it might make him look
a bit silly. So I'm not so sure Manu will feature. I could be wrong. We'll find out later. But yeah,
just more fallout and somehow Manu getting the blame, which is just insane. We've also got Rob
Dorset, I think, from Sky. This is again from Seukel, says England aren't good enough for
keeping possession and that's why they lost to Argentina, not because of his negative tactics.
He sort of blamed DNA. He said like the English DNA, I think he said. Yeah, there's this sort of
aversion to keeping hold of the ball and keeping possession. You know, it's sort of ingrained in
England players that we're not that good at retaining possession. And I think it's nonsensical.
And again, I keep going back to the point when you've got players that can keep the ball,
use him. So I don't think Thomas Seukel is doing himself any favours with these comments,
but we'll see what happens in the press conference. It just feels like there's been a sort of PR
campaign on everyone's front here to try and sort of point the finger elsewhere other than
at certain people, other than the managers, the managers blaming DNA. And we've got journalists
saying, actually, this is the reason certain players weren't featuring. You've got other
players that I think are going to come out with certain statements. So you're going to have at
least stories coming from that camp about players being unhappy. We've already had a few, but some
players were unhappy and baffled to think by Thomas Seukel's tactics for the Argentina game.
So expect there to be a few more stories coming out over the coming weeks, especially when the
clubs, um, yeah, just, um, just nonsense. Um, Steve M says if he'd played menu and brought
war and then England will be better at keeping possession. Seukel is a fraud. I agree with all
that. Um, let's talk about the, um, what we've got is it will England players. Oh yeah, there you go.
This is what I was saying. Players, this Jacob Steinberg in the Guardian, I think the players
were puzzled by tactics, but Seukel left himself no other options, uh, with his squad pic. So yeah,
it just goes in the face of, um, what was saying that a lot of the players were baffled by what was
going on and also Seukel either left menu on the bench or didn't bring all the players that perhaps
could have kept possession as well. So none of what he's saying or what he did made sense in
that game. It was just a massive, massive missed opportunity there. I know I'm a broken record,
but it was, I thought Argentina would have to take it. And unfortunately it wasn't to be, um,
got a bit of an, um, finally I love this. FIFA appoints Slavko Vinicic, is that how you pronounce
it? Vinicic to referee world cup final. Okay. So far so normal. Six years after he was arrested
at a sex party where cocaine and guns were found. What an absolute lad. Hey,
seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing him in action in the world final. Hey, cocaine and guns
by sex parties with cocaine and guns. It's all happening for that boy. Hey, who's that? Who's
that? Um, that rest ended up getting sat. Was it David? What was his name? Yeah. He got sacked.
Same things. He shouldn't have said arguably under the influence of some substances, but that's not
stopping fee for this lad. He's straight in there. I mean, look who hasn't had a sex party with guns
and cocaine. Hey, let's be real. Come on. We can't start dropping referees from world cup finals just
because of silly things like that. Hey, right. Um, I'm going to leave it there. The river says
my kind of pie. Um, I'm going to leave it there. We're going to be back later on today. We've got
the preview to the Wrexham game. We've got the brew me and Steven Alston getting the band back
together after a little sabbatical when he was wandering off around the States for the world
cup. So we're doing that as well. Make sure you're hitting like share and subscribe. Uh,
make sure you check out the merchandise as well. There's a link in the description for that. I'm
this has been the paper talk. Thanks for watching.
