On the strip in Las Vegas, Nevada,
as NBA Summer League rolls on.
Championship game is set,
but we continue as the Phoenix Suns
take on the San Antonio Spurs in Summer League.
Thanks for hanging out with us on this Saturday night.
Ball is up.
Tap back to San Antonio where they begin.
So Spurs on the run.
Bridge on.
See if he continues to do that.
And it is.
Orlis Williamson, the head coach of San Antonio.
My former teammate.
I was his rookie.
Were you born yet?
I'm not gonna answer that question.
Let's check in with the third member
of our crew, Morgan Reagan.
Well, first, no, Carlo was not born, but let's see.
See, you're young.
I thought it was the ticket.
Ticket, yeah, yeah.
He was a kid at first, then he was ticket.
You're right.
I like ticket better, actually.
You're right.
See?
Mamba was a good one.
That's a good one.
Mamba was a really good one.
Colby was a great storyteller.
I mean, the king is tough.
Yeah.
Oh, we forgetting the chef.
Taking us away from that fun.
That's true.
Too much criticism out there.
Yeah, it's too much.
I know Wimby's-
Wimby has-
Wimby.
I like Wimby over Alien.
But the Alien fits.
It does.
Lee, another three.
Another make.
I mean, any shot outside the three-point line,
you can have a layup.
JJ Redick was one of those guys.
Another triple and another make.
Yeah, one thing about Dylan,
one of the most hated guys in the NBA,
but I've never heard any teammates say one bad thing
about him to see if my brain works.
Nelson to the rim.
Scoops in on the left hand.
I cheated, but I would've guessed like 27, 28,
but I saw 30.
Okay.
Wow, honesty.
I respect it.
I would've lied.
All you can do is take an awful three or an awful shot.
It's called a grenade.
Blowing up on you.
Blowing up your field goal percentage.
You get a grenade, it just slips out your hand
and just goes out of bounds.
Then it's a turnover on the guy who passes to you?
Yes.
Oh my goodness.
Yeah, well, I mean, I'm sure you'd get one
if you miss or make the shot.
But regardless, not so kind words.
Yeah, yeah.
Nelson shimmies his way with a right-handed scoop.
The best plumber in the world.
He gives me the best resources
to be the best plumber in the world.
He doesn't care what I do.
He just wants me to go a hundred percent at it
and be as successful as I can.
The big is anchoring everything.
The big is telling everyone where everything is shifting
on the backside, like the screen.
You can still hear him in those loud NBA arenas,
or is it?
It sounds simple, but only if you do it that well.
Mark, a step back three.
That rattles down.
Winning spurs on defense.
Grant Foster with the board.
Wetzel's muscles through some contact.
Yeah, I mean, everybody was hitting me.
Tickets cost.
I know, I know.
I think we get three free ones at home,
but we got to pay taxes on them.
Yeah.
And anything else you got to pay for.
Yeah.
How much does the PA help with that?
Yeah, well, there's so much being thrown at them
so quickly.
And it's another three.
You know, you got the legal team,
you got your financial team.
You know, everybody should play a role in your success.
So once you step on that court,
all your focus and energy is there.
Tic-tac-toe for a two-handed finish.
Milicic with the slam.
What were the resources like when you got into the league?
Was there a transition program?
Yeah, yeah, we had a transition program
and another steal.
Melendez, coast to coast.
Sean Elliott, great player.
Cook, catch and shoot.
He drops in a three.
We close out this Saturday filled with summer league action.
Hoiberg a steal.
That's a defensive ending.
Oh, Mike.
Cook takes off.
That's the hard-nosed play of a coach's son,
making things happen.
Corner three, Melendez on that.
Camper leaves it.
Another triple is up.
Another triple is in.
Almost a rebound.
Leads to threes.
Another one.
Same spot, same shot, different result.
No matter what they're playing for,
guys always playing hard.
Camper Jr., oh, runway to the rim.
And a lead for Phoenix.
They go to Cook.
He's got eight in the quarter.
Camper gets a step around Melendez.
Nice.
End of the cup for two.
Last game, one more half basketball.
What's the biggest thing that you've learned
from this summer league experience
going into this last half?
You just got to try to stay consistent,
keep a good spirit the whole time.
You know, it's up and down,
and you know, you've got roster guys, two-way guys.
This is all, it's a rollercoaster of basketball,
but you got to just stay used to it.
Yeah, it's still just trying to stay connected, I guess.
What's that main goal?
So before you leave summer league,
you get to say, all right,
this is what we did in that final half of basketball.
I think just doing the best we can.
I think, you know, the guys that didn't play
the first couple of games, they're getting to play.
I think the guys that's playing the most,
you know, they're getting to cheer us on.
So I think everybody's got to do their job,
and I think we'll get the win.
Good luck, Jameer.
Thank you.
It's the last weekend of summer league.
You look at everything that you guys are doing here.
How do you create your own energy in this second half?
You know, we started pretty good,
but we finished the wrong way.
I think we got to fix it up.
We gave up too much offensive rebounds, too many turnovers,
but, you know, it's a great opportunity to play.
So it's a great opportunity to come back
and then get the win.
And then what are some of your main takeaways
from this summer league?
Oh, well, just play the right way.
Play with the teammates.
Always, you know, be grateful for this opportunity.
Thank you.
Good luck.
So it's, I mean, it could go any which way, you know,
but at the end of the day, you want to be yourself,
but you want to let the team know.
Find a paint.
R.J. Davis to the paint for two.
Nate, and vice versa,
non-paint touches in relation to misses.
Teams definitely track it.
They track everything in the NBA these days.
Baseline jumper from Miles Kelly.
You got points in the paint.
Well, paint touches.
Yeah, yeah.
That's Cook.
Long as they show your hands,
that's just a defensive stance.
And you're building an optical illusion
that everything is covered.
Like, you'd be surprised at how,
it's a great finish.
You'd be surprised at how building optical illusions
can alter what the offense sees.
You know, the blood testing now,
seeing not just what you're allergic to,
but what your body is allergic to,
digesting, there's so many layers to it, you know.
And, you know, you always say,
it's like you buy a Ferrari,
what type of gas are you going to put in it?
But with Devin Booker drawing a lot of attention,
you know, Miles Bridges being a rim attack,
and he's shooting the ball well.
Like, Miles Bridges is one of my best friends.
And he's been telling me about Dylan from like day one.
Like, this kid is different.
It sets you up to be in the league for a decade.
You know, you get in the wrong organization.
13, under, get in for free.
And from like age nine,
he looked like he was 17.
San Antonio up by six.
Head to the twilight of the third.
Kelly, no floater in the finish.
Two paint touches.
It's just, you know, the scouts forgot
the other things that were being done well
because he shot the three ball so well.
Coach layup is off.
Tries to grab the first double-digit lead of the contest.
They outscored Phoenix 22 to 10.
Barnstable, red carpet to the rim.
Nice finish.
You can look at the first possession defensively,
and if you have a small guard,
you see it's not a blitz right there.
It's more of a show, get back, or just a hold.
But I don't know if my temperament
would allow me to coach.
Oh, dude.
That's grown man business.
Maoka.
Venture capitalist.
Yeah.
You know, you just saw the Seattle Seahawks,
9.6 billion, you know, Coastal, Coastal Ventures.
You saw Thrive Capital.
Cass.
Kelly, double.
Hey!
Wessels!
Rocks iron.
But they are playing for something.
You just love the energy they bring in.
So many scouts beyond even the NBA universe
watching this one as it's skewed.
Nothing but core.
That is where the play is made.
Yes.
So RJ's looking at the big.
RJ's seeing what the big is doing off the pick and roll,
and that's telling him what play to make after that.
And then everyone should know how the ball should move.
You've got a few things.
Goal tending, who it goes out on.
There's so much technology now.
It'll eventually be part of the game, make the game better.
It's like Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods knows, he can tell to like a milligram
by just hitting the ball one time.
The great shooters, the great,
the guys who've been in the league a long time.
As Stevens gets another three.
Two in a row.
Two point game, three minutes on the clock.
Camper sees a lot of space.
Now that was a tough finish.
Used all of the energy.
Skew to the rim, and Lee is there on the weak side.
Leak out, opportunity, Kelly to zero in the lane.
Four in a row for Kelly, Spurs up by four.
Looks at the rim, attacks, and lays it in.
Pretty touch over the top of the contest.
One possession ball game.
More time ticking away.
Spurs hanging on to the lead.
R.J. with five.
Kelly, three ball, yes!
Look at social media doing something good.
All right, here we go.
Phoenix needs a bucket.
As Skew turns the corner and lays it in.
As Skew pulls up and hits.
One possession game.
Inbound to come from Lee.
Oh yes, that was nice.
We got a foul away from the play.
Did this come before or after the inbound?
If it's before, there's gonna be one free throw
and a re-inbound.
And he's got both, why not?
Third, 12 in a row for Kelly.
2.3 left in this Saturday.
As Skew inbound, Lee, and San Antonio's up.
The Spurs take down the Suns for their third straight win.
Miles, a big second half and you guys made it this far.
What's the biggest thing that you've learned
from this summer league experience?
Where have you grown?
Just being connected.
I think the most connected team wins the most games
in the summer league in a setting like this.
So just being connected
and everybody out there communicating,
I think it really helps.
And then when you see the light at the end of the tunnel,
what's the most challenging part mentally
to get there and get the dub?
Just to fight through adversity.
I think that's the biggest thing.
The basketball is a game of runs.
So it's about the team who's gonna stay the most with it
and be the most connected.
And then last thing,
it's been a lot these last couple of weeks.
What's the first thing you're gonna do
after you leave summer league?
Probably get back to work.
The work is not finished.
These games are something that we prepare for,
but after this, it's get back to work.
Love it, congrats.
Thank you.
