Starship Flight 13’s New Timeline to Do Something Insane. Can They Make It Succeed???
Flight 13 is approaching—and just a few weeks ago, many people thought this timeline was impossible.
Beyond simply flying again, this mission could set the stage for some of the biggest milestones in Starship's history.
So what exactly will happen during Flight 13? And how could this mission shape everything that follows?
Let's find out on today's episode of Great SpaceX.
Starship Flight 13’s New Timeline to Do Something Insane. Can They Make It Succeed???
Flight 13 marks the second flight of Starship V3.
Some people consider the number 13 unlucky, but if there's one company that doesn't believe in bad luck, it's SpaceX.
Reaching extraordinary goals means overcoming every challenge along the way.
That's a philosophy we try to follow here as well.
Our next milestone is 500,000 subscribers, and getting there means continually improving our content while bringing you the fastest SpaceX and aerospace updates possible.

Now, back to Flight 13.
At its core, this mission is designed to build on Flight 12.
Starship Flight 13’s New Timeline to Do Something Insane. Can They Make It Succeed???
SpaceX wants to repeat the overall mission profile while fixing the issues that prevented a completely successful flight.
That doesn't mean it'll be an identical mission.
In fact, several important hardware upgrades and operational changes have been introduced.
Let's begin with the biggest focus of all: the Raptor engines.
Flight 12 exposed weaknesses on both stages.
On Super Heavy, one engine failed shortly after liftoff, and the resulting anomalies likely contributed to increasingly unstable engine shutdowns and restarts before the booster was ultimately lost just before splashdown.
On Ship, one of the three Raptor Vacuum engines shut down shortly after stage separation.
Although the vehicle continued its mission successfully, SpaceX clearly wants to eliminate that failure before moving on to more ambitious objectives.
To address those issues, SpaceX says the upcoming Super Heavy booster features hardware modifications to improve restart reliability, along with updates to engine warning and abort functions that better reflect the conditions encountered in a multi-engine flight environment.
