Israel would be 'VERY GRATEFUL' if Trump follows through, former Israeli ambassador says

All right, let's bring in the former Israeli ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren. Mr. Ambassador, always good to have you on. Thanks for being with us. I think that President Trump, it would seem, finally came to the conclusion that Iran is not negotiating seriously. They're just trying to tap him along. They're playing for time. They continue to act belligerently. So Ed Lawrence from Fox Business asked him the question yesterday about, remember when the president gave the order to get rid of ISIS? Would he do something similar with the IRGC? Listen here. I wanted to ask you, Mr. President, about Iran and on Iran. You came to the conclusion that you couldn't negotiate with the IRGC. Does that mean that you might wipe them out like you did ISIS? Yeah, it does. We will see what's happening. If you're not going to do it the way I'm doing it, you're never going to make a deal with them. What's your reaction to the idea that he may try to take down the IRGC in a similar fashion that he took down ISIS? You're not going to have a word of protest from the people of Israel, John. It's good to be with you. The IRGC is dedicated to our destruction, and not to a destruction by firing missiles at us, by operating proxies around our borders, firing rockets and mortars and drones at our civilian population. So if the president follows through on that threat, I think the state of Israel, the people of Israel would be very grateful. What role do you think Israel could play in a campaign to take down the IRGC? I think Israel will react if we're fired upon. And I think the Israeli forces, particularly the Israeli Air Force, are on very high alert tonight. I spent some time with the Air Force today, on a very high alert, and they're prepared. Because Iran is firing missiles at virtually all of our neighbors. Jordan is an hour drive from where I'm talking to you, and it was hit by missiles today. So we're prepared. I don't think Israel will join unless the president expressly asks Israel and the Israel Defense Forces to join in a more robust and all-encompassing military action against Iran. I want to ask you, Mr. Ambassador, about something that happened yesterday across the street from me. In the House of Representatives, nearly half of Democrats in Congress voted to cut off aid to Israel. And they were very happy about doing that. Listen to what some of them said. What it says is that the majority of Democrats voted in favor of this Massey Amendment. And to me, what it says is that the majority of the Democratic Party is most in touch with the American electorate writ large. A majority of Democrats in this building refused to vote to send billions of dollars in weapons to the Israeli military. That sends a strong message. There are many members who took votes that I was surprised to take that yes vote today. And I am proud of that. We have 80 members, and I believe, looking at this list, that we're going to pick up more members. What do you think of that, Mr. Ambassador? I mean, Jewish voters in the United States have been a reliable Democratic constituency, but now it would appear that the Democratic Party is leaving them and Israel behind. I find it curious, to say the least, John, that these members of Congress are smiling having voted for a piece of legislation that will literally endanger their children and grandchildren. The United States has one, and I stress one, military ally in the world that's willing to fight with the United States shoulder to shoulder and fight on a level not just of military prowess, but technological prowess, which is equal to, if not surpassing, that of the United States. Why would anybody, anybody who cares about the security of the United States, want in any way to weaken that alliance and weaken the Israeli partner to that alliance? Yeah, they have their ideology, but let them talk about their ideology when the United States is less defensible, more vulnerable to attacks. Also, let them go back to their constituents, because all the American aid to Israel is spent in the United States. It's basically a subsidy to the American arms industry. It employs tens and tens of thousands of people in the United States. They'll be out of a job if the Democrats have their way. Yeah, well, it's puzzling and troubling to a lot of people, the direction the Democratic Party is going in. Ambassador Oren, always good to catch up with you. Thanks so much for being with us.
