Protesters in Kyiv chant the name of Defense Minister Mikhailo Fedorov.
President Volodymyr Zelensky unexpectedly dismissed him
on Thursday. He also removed the Prime Minister.
Zelensky says the decision was meant to bring greater unity to Ukraine's government
during the war with Russia.
It seems the president was talking about the growing rift between Fedorov and the
head of Ukraine's armed forces, General Sirsky,
who both represent two very different schools of thought on how to fight the war.
Fedorov was in office only six months, but in that time,
he enacted sweeping reforms that proved popular.
And many attribute Ukraine's recent momentum in the war with Russia to his changes.
While Fedorov's removal reveals a rift at the highest levels of leadership in Kyiv,
it also shows a desire for reforms that could help carry Ukraine
and its military into the future.
