I am a fan of Golden Hoops.
Here is Wilson back on the ball.
Defended by Matt Cleveland.
Wilson explodes it!
The play of the
2026 Summer League.
Caleb Wilson going
over top.
And for Memphis
42%.
Ill-advised pass
Oh! Caleb Wilson
jumping out of the gym.
On the back, look at this.
Let me go get you at the top.
Wow, look at that.
On the ball.
In ahead for Wilson.
Gets it back on this end
with authority.
Swing to work it in.
Wilson fires
and hits. Got the record.
Most points
in a Vegas Summer League
debut. He has 32.
Summer League. Chicago's out at
timeouts, so this ball's
got to be pushed up the floor very
quickly.
5.6 to go.
And to Wilson.
They're not going to foul him on the shot.
Hits the tray anyway!
Wilson put on a show.
In 33
minutes.
He should have 42-43 tonight.
Snatched by Iwaka.
And ahead to Wilson.
Wilson
threw the shoulder in and then
threw the hammer down.
In transition,
if you can attack quickly, get the ball
up, make a decision, a little rip through,
one dribble.
He's willing to put the work in. He's represented
by Rich Paul Clutch. They got him in
the gym early, being that he missed
the end of the season.
Harmon in the corner with three to
shoot for Utah.
Matt Cleveland blocked by Wilson.
That's two blocks.
I try to get in and out because
everybody wants to take a picture
or have a second with you,
but 10 to 12 teams
competing for that 10th spot,
including the play in.
I just can't wait
to see.
Thought he was going to get drafted, didn't work out.
He's from Charlotte in Florida.
Wilson in.
And what we like is, remember what you said,
he only took one or two attempts last year.
He's shooting them right now. He's shooting another one now.
Oh, with a heat check.
There is the heat check.
Yes sir!
I thought he was going to heat check right away. Let me get to my
step back.
Young fella.
Outside to Boozer.
Boozer, step through
with the left. No.
Good rebound by Cooper.
You got to go to Pilates class for this.
Hendricks.
Elite camp
where he really changed his game
and became dominant in the paint.
Just like that.
Another prospect
for the Wizards
at a guard position.
Young man who can guard a beautiful
pass inside.
Yeah, you know what I'm impressed
about the Summer League
this year. It's not just Gator Paulson, it's the other
top draft. Same if you're fouled
on a three-point shot.
Wilson.
Good defense by Small.
Oh, yeah.
And what we like is, remember what you said,
he only took one or two attempts last year. He's shooting
them right now. He's shooting another one now.
Oh, with a heat check.
There is the heat check.
Yes sir!
Wilson missed
a heave at halftime.
He'll put up the three and the buzzer.
Wilson
ends the third quarter with a bang.
Three-point shot.
Off the dribble, identified a shot
clock. Phoenix, so you had
Brayden Burris playing against
Cole P. And every time
like that,
Gator Paulson gets to the basket. Every time,
Brayden Burris had an opportunity.
Sellers. Nice.
Offensive rebound.
Waka puts it back up.
A second-time foul on Tim.
Nsenge. Over to
Wilson now. Wilson's first.
Hey, answer my question.
Get a three early.
Oh, yeah. Right here. Right off the dribble.
We didn't see this in college. It's more catch and shooting.
This is Swain inside. Nowhere to
go. Tossed it out to Wilson
somehow. Wilson. Step back
Jay. Bottoms. Wow. I'll tell you what.
He's going to be able to make it.
Force him inside. Don't let him go the other way
where you don't have all the conjunction there.
I see teams doing that,
John. I totally agree with you.
And shooting. Bowles
is a team below 25%.
They have 21 turnovers.
Wilson with the reject.
But even in college, winning
every individual award is
Wilson. Sellers.
Over to
Wilson. Flicks the wrist. Again.
Swish.
Oh, Caleb Wilson
run. I'm in.
Okay.
Absolutely.
Yes, outside.
Hold on, Jay. He can't go against his team.
It would have been wrong if he forced the action
to try to get his own shot.
Got his own shot.
35-point performance in game one
was also an emotional one for
Caleb Wilson. He actually cried.
Well, if you wanted to play as you like,
it's good for me. I can play more minutes.
Seeing the guys you coach come
out here live out their dreams.
They're both so competitive as you saw
the bucket there. The three from Caleb Wilson.
But he told me that the stage
Well, you see this too.
And Huber's like, man, you know what?
Dumped will be
of course the highlight.
But how about the fact that he has the ability
to highlight dunk the next
possession. He hit a three. Then he just threw it
off of Harmon's face.
Bluey retrieved it for Chicago. Weaves
inside. Wilson is there.
Seems to be right on.
Tremendous
rookie class. Right on cue.
Wilson. Another
one from downtown.
Knocked down. We saved
one to catch his shoes. He made the ones off the dribble.
See what Caleb did. But that's one of the
things that excites people so much about him is he's
so coachable. But you see
wondering where that was at the University
of North Carolina. More known
for that transition start to
for the gym. I am. I'm here with
Caleb and he already told me he's got a message. So
I'm gonna let you go ahead here. I'm gonna let
y'all know right now. Jalen Sellers and Donovan
Atwell saved my life. That's what they did
today. They saved my life. You know, we won.
That's all we wanted to do. I'm
excited, bro. Go Bulls.
You guys get your first win here at Summer League.
I know how much of a competitor you are. So what did you see
from this group in the second half in this fourth quarter?
You know, we played defense. That's
probably our biggest thing. You know, coming out
of the huddle and coming out of halftime, we said that we needed to finish
the game strong. We had a lead at halftime. I don't think we've had
one this Summer League. So, you know, we just had to finish
strong. I'm excited we did it. While you're shouting
out teammates here, I gotta ask you about your ex-teammate.
You got your ex-head coach here from college.
So did it feel like a UNC reunion?
Oh, for sure. For sure. But, you know,
once you get between the lines, none of that matters. So, you know,
I'm just excited that my coach is here to support me
and, you know, go Heels always.
Okay, so another two triples
for you tonight. You've already
surpassed your college total. What
has gotten into you here in Vegas?
Uh, shout out
God, shout out Chris Johnson Hoops,
and shout out my mom.
That's a big three.
That's a very impressive big three.
Now, listen, we have seen you kind of put a couple
of posters together here at Summer League.
How would you describe the athleticism
and the way you attack the rim? I just,
every time I attack the rim, I'm trying to dunk. You know, that's
what I've been raised to do. That's what my dad
told me, so I gotta do it. Alright, thank you
so much, Caleb. We love your energy. No problem.
Obviously, this is a whirlwind experience
and then you kind of get into the summer and that's
where the real work begins. What kind of
advice have both of you guys gotten in terms of how
to make the most out of the time between now and Summer
League? Um,
the only advice I've got is to just take it day by day.
I mean, like you said, it's a whirlwind of time
and it's kind of hard
to just sit back and breathe, but, you
know, we're here for basketball and we're here
to be winners and have a
great culture and set the tone for this team
moving forward, so just focus on
basketball and keep that the main thing.
There's a new coach.
What is it kind of like to be on the ground floor of
this kind of
whatever this becomes?
It's crazy, honestly. You know,
it's not like a fresh start and
I feel like we have the
things we need to be a great team.
Honestly, you know, I know I'll step in and
be a leader by leading by example
and making sure that I get this city to back where it
was. I'm really excited for the
opportunity and I feel like we have a great
group of guys around us to make it happen.
I mean, I'm excited to
get to work, honestly. You know, it's time to go.
How do you kind of envision being
used in the Bulls offense
and what has Thiago said
about that so far in whatever early
conversations you've had?
For me, I just envision being able to play.
I feel like I'm just a basketball player.
I'm going
to do what it takes to win, so
getting the rebound, pushing it,
creating an initiating transition, making sure I'm a good
screener, coming off ball screeners, just doing what
it takes to be a good basketball player.
I mean, I try not to box myself in into a role
and that's kind of how Thiago envisions it as well.
Just making sure you have the opportunity to play basketball
kind of freely but within a little bit of structure.
Coming into the draft,
what does that mean to you guys?
For me, it means a lot, honestly.
You know, you only get one opportunity to make a first impression
and you only get one opportunity to do what I'm doing,
have an NBA career. So, you know, I take
every moment that I have seriously. I want to
take every practice seriously and
knowing that, you know, it's only a limited amount of time.
So, I mean, I know I'm going to
be a leader, at least by example, and
making sure I try to come first in
all the conditioning, testing, drills
and do everything I can to be a leader that
the people respect.
Do you expect to have
or anticipate having?
I expect to have Rick good a year,
honestly. I mean, I'm going to work hard.
I'm going to do what it takes. I feel like the team
is really good for me and how I
envision the play. And I know I'm a
hard worker. So, whatever I need to
fix it, work on throughout the season
and before the season, I'm going to work on it so I can be a great
player. Do you sort of see
a similarity that people
maybe are underestimating what you can do
and what you could bring?
Yeah, for sure. I mean, I've played all of them now.
So, I mean, you know what happens when I
play them. So, I mean, it don't really matter.
I don't really care about the media.
I'm a competitor and I get to play
in the summer league, too. So,
whatever needs to be done to
prove that I'm on the same level or
that I'm better, we'll do it.
Is that the motivation
when you played Kansas earlier in the season
and Duke later?
Honestly, I didn't have any motivation
based on the person on the other side. It's about me.
I mean, I'm just proving myself right.
The confidence and expectations you have
for yourself with the understanding that
development in the NBA isn't always
linear and this is maybe a whole different
game than you played in college.
I mean, I know it's a different game
and I know development isn't linear, but
I mean, I got everything I need to be
great, honestly. I'm extremely athletic.
I have a game that translates to the NBA
well. Everything that I need
to work on is stuff that I can actually work on.
It's not something that God has to give me
because he's given me everything I need.
Caleb, we've heard so much about your work ethic.
Can you share any stories about
where that started? Who instilled that in you
when you were younger?
Honestly, it started once
I realized that I needed to do some of my life.
I wasn't really at work when I was younger.
I probably didn't start really taking basketball
specifically serious until
I was around 14 years old.
But once I really started to stick with it, I really started
to work hard. I mean, I just
love the game. I have a lot
of fun with it, but I want to
be legendary. I want to be remembered after I finish playing
it. That's kind of what pushes me every day to be a great player.
