This was such a cool baseball moment. It really takes you back to your childhood
and it's what everyone is talking about today.
A magical moment at the Midsummer Classic at Citizens Bank Park.
During the fifth inning, a group of young baseball fans riding their bicycles onto the field,
then paired with an MLB All-Star player as the fireworks burst into the sky above
in a nostalgic nod to the iconic movie The Sandlot.
Going out there, meeting the players, all the fireworks,
it was an amazing experience to be a part of. Most people online said we looked like
exactly like The Sandlot and they gave them chills and stuff.
Riding on the field and seeing all the fans and them cheering, that was cool.
In the 1993 movie's famous 4th of July scene, a group of baseball players play their only night
game. Set to Ray Charles' stirring rendition of America the Beautiful, the sky lights up with
fireworks, giving them just enough light to feel like big leaguers.
What was it like to recreate that famous scene?
That was intense. Like, I was super worried. I was actually really scared, but
then it was actually, it turned out to be fun.
We caught up with six of the 10 young baseball players chosen to be part of the Tribute to
Baseball as part of America's 250th birthday celebration at an impromptu practice in South
Philly. They filmed a special intro with the kids in West Philadelphia,
had one dress rehearsal at the bank, and then it was showtime.
It felt amazing because just being out there in front of 46,000 people is just unreal.
Joseph Lund was paired with Brandon Marsh of the Phillies.
We were talking about how, like, the Ray Charles song makes them, like, emotional and stuff,
and then we were just standing there watching the fireworks.
The 13-year-old says Marsh even did a video for his grandma, who is a huge Marsh fan.
I just wanted to say we love you and we appreciate you. Hope you're having a great night.
Memories definitely made. 10-year-old Ryan McLuckie getting some tips from
South Jersey native Mike Trout.
He's so nice. He was trying to help me with my stance. I had my feet too close together,
so I had to just, like, move them out a little bit, and then I got the stance right.
And talk about a thrill. This young man got to play catch with Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman.
We was throwing together. I just felt it, like, it was pretty cool,
like, at the door. It felt like nobody was even there.
Parent and coach Ryan McLuckie says it was an absolutely phenomenal night for the players
from beginning to end.
There were tears of joy. There were smiles. It was just, we were so proud of these kids,
and they were so lucky to have this opportunity.
But just the smiles coming off the kids, it was just, it was magical.
