With the announcement of the next Total War title around the corner we get a little taste of the action. This image: http://i.imgur.com/jfuL4Hy.jpg seems to point to the next game being focused around the arrival of Attila the Hun at the end of the Roman Eperial period!

He expresses hope that it will be a comprehensive expansion similar to \"Fall of the Samurai,\" introducing deep mechanics and historical scenarios involving the Huns and the split Roman Empire.
Hey, what's up guys?
This is Oakley and we are awaiting desperately some official news as to what the next Total War title is gonna be
But that news is gonna be coming up soon in the meantime
However, someone has been able to snap an image of the backdrop of that presentation
So most of the text here and the image has been blacked out
But what it seems and what people have gleaned from this and other images is that we're going to be getting something called
Total War Attila the Great
So this is probably what you can think of it is late roman empire barbarian invasion, which is so so cool
And what i'm hoping it ends up being is have the care and attention and quality
And sort of have what you had happen with fall of samurai and what that did to shogun 2
Take an already pretty refined game by that point and just add a lot to it
Delve into the depths and really make a fully fleshed out expansion pack
Especially given the crowning achievement of empire emperor edition patch 15 all the work that ca has put into really getting
You know rome 2 finally up to where it should have been
I think they can take those concepts work them into this new title and then you know
Parts of the game that they really couldn't do
For for example, you know patch
Purposes because a it's a small team b. It's a small time frame and c they can't really put in huge new mechanics
They can take all those things that they've been waiting to do and that the community has been asking for
And put those in this huge expansion pack
So i'm hoping this is what they're going to use this expansion pack to be i'm very excited about the time period
Basically what happens is you have the east and western roman empire have been split
They sometimes sort of bicker and feud with each other and for the most part don't really collaborate and help too much
What you have happening is mostly in the east. The roman empire is holding together pretty well. They do have
Their base out of constantinople by xantium
Whatever you want to call it and they're going to be fighting against persia
And then also trying to secure their territories up
in what is left of you know around the area of by xantium in
Thrace and that sort of area and then the western roman empire has actually
Started to be overrun by vandals by goths by other people storming from the northern frontiers of germania
Coming into those territories and then if we're going to focus on atilla the great his people were thought to have come out of
The great plains around kazakhstan steppe people coming over in waves and waves and other migratory patterns that pushed them into europe
By the time of atilla the great he was settled and his people outside of the great hungarian plains
And they used that as a place to feed their horses and from there land strikes on the east roman empire western roman empire
Stormed through gaul. So if we go into this time period lots of warring nations lots of chances for you know
Retaking the roman empire foraging it into a huge empire and pushing back the barbarians or as one of the barbarian kingdoms coming in
Developing your own empire and you know, maybe superseding the roman empire a lot of cool stuff to happen
Atilla the great lots of battles to be expected
Hopefully we can do the battle of adrianople the the death of emperor valens, maybe even valerian against the the persians on the east
Uh, although the slightly earlier time period and then you can also do
Potentially when the atilla the great pushes into gaul you would do the battle of cataluanian plains
So I have a series of books on this topic that i've read
So i'm pretty familiar with this time period as well as the punic war period
So as you've seen me do with the punic wars, I have this ongoing series for the first punic war then the battle of cannae
I hope I can do that for this time here because I have in front of me a whole series of books
So i'll give you guys a book recommendation if you're interested for this title before official news comes out
so first and foremost, I would direct you to
The historical atlas of ancient rome by chris scar and this is going to be part of a the penguin collection
So penguin publishing and it's going to be a relatively thin book. That's mostly filled with maps and images
It gets you sort of a a satellite view of the roman empire from its
Inception to its split and eventual fall so you get to track the roman empire
It's very good at getting a sort of sense of continuity for the empire
And then if you want that type of format, but in text, I would recommend simon simon baker's book ancient rome
The rise and fall of empire it goes through the entire roman period. However, it is a pretty hefty book
It's pushing on 400 pages and relatively dense, but that is very good
Now if you're interested mostly in the fall of the roman empire
Adrian goldsworthy has a book that I read called how rome fell. That's a very very good book again
It's a pretty thick tome
It's going to be pushing about 500 pages, but very very good book. Adrian goldsworthy is an incredible writer and historian
He wrote uh caesar's life of a colossus that it was a very good read. I recommend it as well
But if you want to be, you know more even more zoomed in on the fall of roman empire
Particularly on atilla the great I would recommend the book by christopher kelly the end of empire atilla the hun and the fall of
Rome, that is a book I read recently that is very good specifically about the till of the hun
His exploits and how he sort of um dealt with the east and west roman empire and all the shenanigans that entitles
Uh entails I should say
This uh barbarian invasion and this would be a really good road map if you want to start probing into the literature for this time
I definitely recommend those books if that's not for you. What i'll do is i'll go ahead and start
Assimilating this information and hopefully once the game is released or even before I can put together informational videos
That will get you guys up to speed on this stuff
So anyways, we are going to be awaiting more news from ca
But that is going to be my take on it and my recommendations for the time being see you guys in the next video
