Hey Gospel Guitars here, and I'm just wanting to spend a little time to show you
What it's like to switch over from Windows 11 to Linux Mint
Right now what you're looking at is my Linux Mint
Desktop, I am
not running Cinnamon
I
Have downloaded the KDE Plasma
Desktop environment to run on top of Linux Mint
And the version I'm running is LNDE the Debian edition 7
It's very easy to install this desktop environment over the Cinnamon environment. It's not really over the environment
It's an addition to so when you boot the machine you can actually pick which
environment you want to go into either Cinnamon or
Plasma and
Cinnamon just got kind of boring for me, so it's great for beginners
But I want a little more flexibility and customization
options and
Plasma 6 gives that to me, so it's a little more modernized as you can see here
We have categories on the left for software categories when you click like multimedia all your multimedia type
software comes up
Internet is internet and connectivity software
the graphic software over here
If you have educational which I only have FreeCAD right now games. I only have a few
offices LibreOffice comes with
System so you're fully equipped for handling all your Microsoft documents and everything
I think that's what you are used to
So if you click down here, you can see where there's a blue line over applications if you click on
Places it gives you access to your normal places like you would in Windows home documents downloads movies pictures
videos trash etc
Also has history so you can see where you've been what you've been doing and your frequently used
software and programs and places
That you go to and then just click back to applications to launch your applications
And you got your normal sleep restart buttons down here
And of course your taskbar at the bottom of the screen which can be
Customized and placed at the top of the screen through this utility just by right-clicking
Click the
Click on your menu to configure your taskbar
Do that again show panel configuration?
We'll bring you here, so now you can adjust the way this looks and operates fields
And also add desktop widgets
To your desktop with clocks or whatever you know monitors system monitors and things like that the weather or whatever
These two squares down here change your virtual desktops, which you can have as many as you want
You've got your system
settings all
Categorized nice and neat here on the left so anything you want to do to customize your system
You will find it over here
Okay wallpaper colors themes text fonts
Bluetooth connections discs cameras
touchscreens
Pads, whatever you need. It's all over here, and it's all customizable and
I think they did a really good job on Katie any system
so
Very quick look at some of the software that I'm going to be using
I'm going to replace my low-end Vegas movie studio software with
Where's Caden live
On Linux and OBS of course runs on Windows and Linux as does Reaper also
And I think we found ones on Windows as well as Linux and not positive on that one
Most of these work on Windows hydrogen's a drum machine step sequencer
You got your ELC player
Pre-CAD bamboo studio XK Krita
In GNU, I think everything in here runs on Windows
So I was experimenting with all this stuff over the last year thinking what am I going to use if I go to Linux?
I'm not a huge graphics guy, so I'm not really picky about my graphics. I have Krita and
Because and I got him and so I have to learn them
I'll probably be mostly in Caden live and OBS studio because I'm not writing any music right now for Reaper
Or waveform, but I do want to experiment with them
And of course office software is all here complete, and it's very good and
Browsers, I got brave loaded up and conquer and Microsoft Edge
might want
Wonder why I have Microsoft Edge
Because some of the soft passwords and things like getting into Social Security and stuff like that is
Important to have it work right and it works right in Edge where it doesn't work right and other programs like like brave or Firefox
Whatever at least in my experience edge always seems to work for my codes
So I hang on to it
So that's a quick look at the system
Not a whole lot, I don't want to spend a lot of time going over the software at this point
Do you have your dolphin manager whoops?
Your file manager, which also looks very window ask
It's got your different categories for your pictures and things like that, and if you have external hard drives, they'll show up down here
For your store when you get the Linux mint
It'll give you the software manager, so you can just go in here and find things so there's blender and
Discord filezilla bit warden all the popular stuff a lot of it is crossed over to Linux
So you shouldn't have a whole lot of problems unless your work is
Demanding on exact programs like Adobe Premiere or something
That's that would be different
But in Linux you can it's expanded software base and more and more companies are
Jumping on board so like personas you can get studio one for Linux now, so
You want to go pro pro software and pay for it?
You can there are programs out there that you can buy for Linux like DaVinci resolve and studio one
and mix bus
Which is based off of our door, but the interface is totally analog, and it's extremely cool
So anyway, this is just a quick look at it. I've been on it. This will be week two now
Of course I've been using it on a dual machine on and off for last year
And I decided that I've had enough Windows 11. I'm just done with it
So I said you just got to make the jump and and do it so commit to it
So I did so now I have a Windows 10 dual booting with another Linux
Which I might change to a different distribution, but I do have a Windows 10 running on one machine for like my boss software to
edit soft
Hardware because I got an 11 rack with an editor and I've got a base
Boss, and I got boss DX 7
Processor and these things all have software. I've got digitech, and yeah, so if I can I still need to communicate with my hardware
I can
Do presets in Windows, but the rest of time I'm going to be in here unless I'm playing a racing game
so
Hope you found a helpful, and if you're thinking about making a switch. I encourage it. It's just it's just better and
I know I don't live in Seattle
I'm a Kraken fan, but I live in Spokane on the other side of state so I'm from Detroit
I've always been a Red Winger, but now Seattle's finally got a team so gotta back it right
All right, y'all have a good day, and thanks for watching don't forget to Like and subscribe
And let me know in the comments what you think you know you want to see more videos on the computer side
I don't go here very often on this channel, so thanks for watching
