Hello everyone today we're in Meersburg Germany a medieval city on the shores of Lake Constance
here in Germany. We're going to be walking around all the alleyways checking out the medieval
streets and the shops and make sure to stick around to the end of the video we're going to
head inside the castle that's over a thousand years old. It's one of the most well-preserved
castles here in Germany. We're making our way into the city now you still have to enter through one
of the old gates from medieval times. We're starting off our tour today on the bottom of
the city and we're going to make our way to the top where there's a second entrance. Down at this
street level the town is full of shops and cafes we're going to head in some of the knick-knack
shops and shop around a little bit. We just found a candy shop gonna head inside grab some goodies
oh they have my favorite I love caramel orange flavor raspberry flavor rum. I think I'm gonna
have to grab a couple of the Natur just plain caramel this sounds good too chocolate caramel
I'm gonna try some of these. One cool thing to know as a tourist here in Germany and Austria
if you see a fountain and it says Trinkwasser that means the water is of drinking quality
you can just come up here fill up your water bottles and have an ice cold water. We just
finished up walking down the main strip here checking out all the little shops now we're
gonna head down in the other direction but along the lake. You can also get to Merzberg from where
we live in Austria by the boat right here in front of me. I think it's about a two-hour ride though
whereas with the car you only need about 45 minutes to get here. On the lakeside there's not really
any shops it's just hotels and restaurants but you have an awesome view while you sit and have
lunch from here. Now we're gonna start making our way to the top side of the town where there's more
shops and cafes and the castle is up this way but first we've got quite a few stairs to walk up
till we get there. You can already see some of the fortress walls. Alright we've already made it up to
the castle but before we head inside we're gonna continue walking around a little bit check out
some more of the shops. This is my favorite street here in Merzberg you have the original houses still
standing that line the city. We made it to the end of the street here at the top of the city now and
this is the other entrance I was telling you about it's called the Oberstuhr I think in German
it means the door above the city and it was the only other entrance back in medieval times.
Merzberg is home to two castles now we're gonna head over and check out the newer castle.
Behind me is the palace of Merzberg we're not gonna head inside today but you can walk around
the gardens for free instead we're gonna opt for going into the old castle but make sure to head
up here and check out the gardens because you get an awesome view of the back side of the castle
from here. Right behind me is the entrance to the old castle we're gonna head inside we just got
our tickets they were 9.50 euros per person so let's head inside and check it out.
One of the first rooms you visit in the castle looks like it's the was the hunting room.
We just entered the war room all the armor on the walls
we're gonna exit the war room and go to the castle gardens.
Castle gardens we have an awesome view of Lake Constance and you see the clock tower down there
the white clock tower that's the entrance that we use to come into the city and off in the distance
across the lake is Switzerland and back in the corner is where we came from Austria. This next
room is pretty cool it has a well in it where they used to get their water from and I don't know if
you can see on camera but it goes way down there. Here we can see the kitchen the oven where they
bake the breads in and right over here is the toilet. We're in the torture chamber of the castle
definitely would not want to sit on that chair.
Well we just entered the throne room guys that concludes our tour of the castle and of
Merzberg I hope you guys enjoyed today's video thanks for watching make sure to like
this video and subscribe for more of my adventures here in Austria. Auf Wiedersehen!
