Total War Rome II Iceni vs Carthage Online Battle 5 LIVE

Hey guys this is Oakley and I just uploaded a video from a match I played a little while ago before I left for the weekend and I figured I'd try out my opponent's tactics and he played as the Iseni where he had a basically a pretty healthy component of cavalrymen so I'm gonna try and do that just try my hand at different techniques you know you might as well learn from your losses so I'm gonna try kind of what he did so I'm gonna take eight cavalry, four of the heroic nobles and a couple more of these other ones as well as some heroic noble infantry. I'm gonna get spirit band because I'm assuming my enemy is gonna have sacred band as well as some elephants and then I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need some some slingers because the range will help me get rid of his elephants so I'm gonna get some more skirmishers as well uh because the thing that'll make or break this battle I'm guessing will be the elephants uh so yeah we're uh ready to go let's go ahead and get this started and um dude I'm excited this is gonna be in the forest so I think um you know it does on the one hand favor the barbarian faction that'll kind of hamper his elephants um but at the same time I do have a lot of cavalry so that might be problematic but let's go ahead and wait and see um in my experience the cavalry are already pretty slow and uh I figure in the forest I'll have enough of a chance to maybe land an ambush so that's gonna be usually my technique especially against someone like Carthage who will probably have sacred band formed up um I'm guessing he'll have a couple you know at least his center and maybe even one of his flanks lined up with sacred band so uh yeah the map is here and uh looks like we're already ready to deploy so um what my plan is I think uh let's take a look here uh it's not very telling so yeah what I think I'm gonna do is flank around the side so I'm gonna have two heroic nobles I'm gonna rearrange these in the unit cards just so I get a better um it's easier for me to control them so I'll put four on the right four on the left what I'm gonna do though is I think I'm trying to flank with these guys but they might get um uh they might get revealed so I'm gonna put one on the left kind of as a decoy in case uh they partly get revealed and that way just one of them gets real and I can run him backwards pretend he's the only flank and keep the other ones hidden um what I'm gonna do here is put my skirmishers up in the front just in case he tries to elephant charge me I want these guys to be up front I'm gonna hide my other components then what I'm gonna do is put some spear support over on the left let's make them a little more dense just in case I'm gonna put some spears here and then what I'm gonna do now is um pretend that I have more infantry than I do so usually people put their general in the center of their army so I'm gonna put my general a bit to the right to make it seem like I actually have more troops than I do um and hopefully that'll lead to the impression that uh you know most of my forces are concentrated in the center and he won't be suspecting a dual um cavalry flank um let's see what he's gonna have Libyan infantry elephants of course yeah so let's go ahead and move I'm gonna move my skirmishers up gonna move these troops up um slowly but steadily and uh yeah let's move the general up again give the impression that I have a lot of troops in the center but that they're kind of hidden from his view uh let's go ahead and move these guys up here and um actually I'm gonna wanna yeah let's move this guy up here for a little more support to keep them hidden and uh just in case he decides to rush with his cav I need some support same with these guys let's move them up um oh yeah I have to click a control shift if you didn't know you can set waypoints with your troops so it's shift to do that and I'm holding control because uh I think it'll allow them to do the waypoints while walking so those guys are gonna flank that way um let's move these guys in the forest I don't quite want to engage at this range I'm gonna save my ammunition for when his uh his elephants are in range and I know you know he can't uh do too much damage to me while I'm in the forest let's move some skirmishers up and I'm gonna toggle off skirmishing mode I don't like it when my troops run away uh I like to maneuver them myself um because often I'll wait for the last moment to retreat them it's a bit more tactical uh let's move these guys up here and um yeah okay his elephants are going to the right caver going to the left so that's a smart move it'll be able to ward off my cav attack so I'm yeah disbalance his forces that's good these guys are gonna keep moving up here I'm gonna have to do the waypoints as well here so let's move one of them um closer just in case they get discovered um yes let's get set this guy here I'm gonna send another one up to meet him uh he's sending his cavern elephants I'm gonna go on a bit of a wider flank actually with two my guys yeah so two are gonna go on the extreme right one is gonna go near right um yeah these guys are gonna wait here ward them off for the time being really want to provoke those elephants into an early engagement or at least lure them into my skirmishers that are hidden in the woods um and hopefully I'll be able to flank them or at least ward them back with my cav let's move some infantry up and uh definitely keep an eye on his elephants and any other troops that might be flanking me you never know if he's gonna pop out of the woods I'm gonna take these guys off fire at will I don't want to waste my ammo I'll let him waste his ammo on me at this range I'm guessing he won't be able to do too much damage to my forces in the woods and I'm gonna move my cav up just in case I need to do a charge on his skirmishers yeah you can see their first volley doesn't even get any kills so I should be good to sit there I'm just gonna make him uh you know waste his ammo and I'm gonna wait for that elephant to get in range um but I don't want these guys necessarily getting uh discarded so let's tell him to stop um and then tell him to hold fire I'm not even within effective range so I'm gonna wait till they're out in the open or I get a juicy target on his elephants let's go ahead and provoke his elephants I'm gonna send those guys out um make sure these guys are going up because I know when ---- goes down on the right with the elephants he's not going to be looking left so that'll be a good flank um let's see I need to make sure I got my spears and infantry because he's definitely gonna try and react um to these guys pushing on his elephants he'll probably retreat his elephants so uh uh and try and take out my guys with his cav so I gotta make sure I support it uh yeah I'm not gonna catch these guys let's go ahead and ward them off um yeah dude at this point he's moving his cav he's definitely gonna try and hit me so let's uh let's engage that flank on the left and let's move these guys back a bit uh spear support moving up um yeah man I'm not gonna get to these guys let's go ahead and uh let's let's pull them back I gotta move my cav support in I'm gonna ward off his skirmishers yeah let's move these guys back I'm gonna move my spears up I can see his cav he really wants to take a bite at me but I have these hidden components here um so yeah I wasn't effective in taking out his elephants but what I can do now is because he's retreated uh his cover there I can actually attack with these uh I can attack his skirmishers up here so let's go ahead and uh engage with my skirmishers and my cav let's also get that flank moving um yeah so he's gonna retreat behind his line but he's not gonna be able to get them all out of the way so uh ---- yeah I gotta retreat the right side he's gonna try and engage I'm not quite yet ready what I am gonna do is chase down his skirmishers on the left uh but okay he's moving up spears let's move these guys back uh I find they get caught a bit too easily so uh you gotta just repeatedly drag I'm gonna keep my skirmishers here um yeah just put shots on his men and trying to cover my retreat I'm gonna shoot his guys here let's move the horses up on the side I'm gonna bait him off I don't want him engaging right here so the horses should be a good enough distraction um yeah I'm gonna move my horses around the side doesn't look like he's reacted I'm gonna start moving some support here and uh you can see I've been able to move those guys up in the woods um and I'm like point blank range in the woods uh right in his face so uh I'm gonna get some good shots off and in return you know I'm gonna be protected gotta move the right side back because uh he has overwhelming support there gonna start peppering his infantry there who aren't being supported uh I think that cavalry charge gained me an advantage in the skirmishing fight I have better positioning uh let's keep forcing his calves to go out further I'm gonna try and provoke these guys pull them out uh I'm not quite yet ready for an engagement here so I'm gonna try and keep pulling these guys out um if they want to chase me all the way that's fine okay yeah he's being smart he's gonna turn around so I'm gonna tell these guys to shoot at him while he retreats gonna keep the pressure up here all the while take a look at my cavalry on the left they're gonna be keeping uh pressure on the flank and uh okay yeah my guys are starting to um waver uh ---- I'm gonna have to pull these guys back all right general retreat there these guys are gonna have to run back he's uh trying to corner me at the same time he's completely left that wing open so uh let's go ahead and move the infantry up and then uh follow up with the calve attack soon so uh yeah just move my spears up trying to make sure he doesn't come back with his calve I gotta save these guys he's uh he's trying to box me in uh let's go back to the main fight uh yeah I got my calve here my infantry and all this stuff moving up yeah I should be good let's go ahead and tie this flank down and um yeah start engaging it time down and um yeah once this infantry is in position I'm gonna move in with my calve he doesn't seem to have noticed them perfect perfect perfect perfect all right let's go ahead and launch this attack um right side we're engaging let's go ahead and do this I'm sure my guys can take them on caver being chased by the elephants let's make sure to move them out in the open road I think I'm gonna yeah his elephants are definitely going to be left out there so I gotta move everything up gonna move these caver on the flank there you go man look he hasn't even noticed so uh yeah I'm gonna be able to knock those guys out in the back uh and engage and pin them down with my uh infantry in the front let's go ahead and move these guys up real close I gotta tie his forces down let's move this cavalry unit around the back dude look at that perfect strikes on his forces gonna get the skirmishers as well moving out that's gonna knock out some of his better units gotta keep avoiding his uh his elephants and uh here comes this is the risky part of this maneuver is when his cav comes back so I gotta make sure um I move all my units in here he's gonna try and strike at my infantry so uh okay good he stopped um yeah let's keep this this attack going gonna move these cav and strike his cavalry in the back I'm gonna need some help over here yeah he's gonna press the attack so let's get into combat so if he does try and strike me he's gonna be hitting his own men and he's gonna get stuck in the the mosh pit gonna move these cav up hit him from the the side these guys are gonna be moving and they're gonna hit his cav from the back and his infantry um let's go ahead and move these uh these guys forward that's good gonna be able to tie them down and keep hitting them with hammer and anvils okay he's distracted with micro his cav right there is not engaging all right there we go let's get some shots off on his troops uh let's get my general out of there let's get these troops knocking out his sacred band I really need to uh to free up my infantry and just get on the hits on any of his troops that are otherwise turned that have turned their backs on me okay his elephants are gonna try and save his cav I gotta get in here land some strikes and get out so let's put uh let's put the special abilities on all right perfect uh this is going relatively well this is the uh this is the the crucial moment when his elephants come in I'm gonna have to draw my uh my cav out before he's able to engage let's pull these guys out and let's uh okay yeah his his elephants are gonna get in the blob let's hit him with the uh slingers see that's why I saved my ammo I knew I was gonna need them oh man these guys are getting out number let's put on uh war cry get these guys moving in and uh okay he's moving his cav to do a hammer and anvil uh but I'm gonna counter charge let's move these cav back in and uh yeah I gotta I really gotta free up this uh one of the flanks and be able to tie him down so uh yeah let's see what's going on here so I'm gonna get my general try and knock out some of his infantry even up this fight here I know my noble warriors on foot can uh hold their own for a while but not with the elephants rampaging so uh let's pull these cav through and uh yeah let's try and save the left flank if I can do that then I'll have enough reinforcements and I'm guessing my forces on the right can hold their own uh the problem is my uh noble riders are starting to get tired but at least his elephants are kind of tied down I can hit him with these uh these slingers go ahead hopefully I can make them rampage and my opponent has enough of his forces right there that uh rampaging elephants will do a good amount of damage uh okay yeah as long as my general doesn't die and I can knock his out that should be pretty good um ah ---- my guys over here all right I'm just gonna launch a quick assault and I'm gonna have to pull out of there and replace them with some steadier infantry I'm not sure about that left flank it seems like his elephants are starting to waver at least get uh angry always make sure to check for your units in the back just in case some are you know off doing needless errands okay uh all right perfect we broke his troops in the center so that means he's got one isolated group on the left um I gotta either save them or save the guys on the rights I think the right side should be good I'm gonna disengage my cav um yeah they're okay I'm gonna send my cav to go uh take out his other forces his skirmishers and save the flanks and I'm gonna set my infantry in here just to take him out I think as long as his elephants are in there smashing most of his men that should be good I'm gonna actually keep my troops from engaging I'll let his elephants stampede as many of his men as mine and now let's try and get them to uh to go into rage mode hopefully if I can get them uh enough you know uh set that rage meter off I can get them to trample as many of his men as mine so I'm gonna go ahead and just kind of watch that from a distance and uh try and save the rest of my forces and uh yeah we should be good let's activate some abilities okay so um as long as his shots don't take out my uh my general right there we should be all right I'm gonna chase down his skirmishers gonna move my own cav up I'm uh getting ready to strike in case he starts uh setting my men in wavering over on the left I'm getting engaged those troops move my cav in the back uh I gotta check which way his spears are facing though I don't want to okay yeah see if I were to charge them right there I would do uh I would fail uh pretty badly okay his cav is moving in um okay they're gonna land a hammer and anvil let's counter strike right here get some frenzy charges off on the side my infantry can hold their own I'm pretty sure those guys are pretty strong okay now that his uh his spears are blobbed up I'm gonna go ahead and charge them and uh let's wrap up this flank with another charge um I think I have this one in the bag guys this is um it came up pretty well my nobles on foot we're able to hold them off yeah this uh this flank here is gonna crumble for sure once I land this even though sacred banner strong you know my uh my swordsmen are good enough and a cav attack from the back is just gonna break them um perfect yes we're cheering all right that's gonna be it let's go ahead and thank my opponents gg man yep so uh I think that went really well better than I expected I really enjoyed that uh prove the uh the tenacity of the ice any that was a that was a great battle so I hope you guys can enjoy these types of battles especially when I try and bring you uh you know a first person recording and all that I think it shows a little bit more of my thinking and strategy along the way and uh yeah you can see right here just how many kills my different forces got even my slingers didn't get that many kills but I think they're mostly directed at the elephants um I'm looking at sacred band they were they're pretty good but you can see my swordsmen 170 220 470 175 they did very well and especially my cavalry uh the first four those noble riders definitely kicked ass so uh you know I would recommend going for those builds and if you can land a side strike that's gonna be the best all right see you next time
