He compares the Brazilian truck stop experience to the American interstate system, highlighting the local artisanal crafts, diverse snack options, and the \"pay-by-weight\" buffet system typical of road travel in Brazil.
Alright guys we are on our way to Lages and haven't felt the need to show you anything
on the trip here because it's just raining so raining raining raining but we're gonna stop
at a truck stop and I want to share with you uh that truck stop place in that area because
something interesting to point to or point out regards to truck stops here in Brazil
in comparison to America so in America we have tons of different kind of truck stops
like very common the interstate system in America works really well for those that don't know
actually the interstate system in America was started by one of the presidents I think it was
either after world war one or after world war two to connect the coasts the east coast to the west
coast of America the north and south um specifically for military traffic so if there was ever a war
they needed to get things across the country in a fast manner so in America the interstate
roads are very big many lanes and there's lots of truck stops along the way and people use the
truck stops they sleep there they eat food there they fill up gas obviously and so there's one here
called Batistela one of many actually between Florianopolis and Lages and we're gonna stop
Batistela it's one of the largest ones and they have food they have snacks they have drinks they
have coffee they have a store they have all kinds of different things there we're gonna have lunch
there today which isn't our norm but that's what we're at we're gonna stop there and so I'm gonna
show you guys around there and so uh hopefully the weather gets better this road can be very
dangerous also when there's a lot of rain so focusing on driving and uh when we get to this
truck stop I will show you guys around guys we have arrived here at Paradoro and beautiful
Ford Raptor here great truck so anyway we are here this is the area and it is a look at this
it's a luncheonette it is like a bunch of stuff and yeah meeting my father-in-law mother-in-law
here for lunch it is the halfway point between Lages and Florianopolis and it's a great little
stopping spot they have um they have internet they have food I think it is open 24 hours
I can check on that but you can see popular spot for motorcycle people and for other stuff
they have a gas station on this side called ALE and right now gas is $6.89
and they have this you know spot here for like little trinkets and little the stops for buses
they stop here and have buses so I can show you guys there a little bit later they have all these
trinkets and things from the through the bay trinkets and things from the interior
they have you know different things that people make oh there's a boy
so these uh things that we have in Brazil the the type of cow that we have I'm not sure what it is
let me know in the comments guys I always forget it's called a boy but it is uh it's a specific
type of of cow and here they have you know these soccer things people from the interior they make
all these types of stuff and this is to hold your chimahón and to hold
conchinho the chimahons it's to hold your stuff here's the cuñas they use for chimahón
and they have them made out of cow's feets as well things to hold your this is for terede
the cold version of chimahón or the other type of herb all these different trinkets here
all these cuñas is what they call them to hold your chimahón to drink them so very interior style
of uh Brazil and very Brazilian I guess you could say it's not just the interior
they have all of these different style of conchinho de churrasco anyway so if you're ever
wondering if they have truck stops like in America they have them here with all the different kinds
of stuff for you know artisanal Brazilian style things and I mean this place is full of different
stuff here but I'm hungry so let's go eat and I don't know if you guys want a slingshot they
have slingshots as well but I'm hungry and so let's go eat but before we do that I'm going
to show you now because I don't want to do it after bathrooms obviously but then they have
this luncheonete so this spot here is where you grab bread that's made like by
we call it like artisanal bread or basically like a fazenda they make all this bread they have all
these snacks obviously American influence with Pringles and whatnot when they have
everything else so you go through this line you grab and of course
football going but you come here and uh I have to tell you guys a funny story actually so
tell you this funny story so my dad first time he came here we stopped at this place and we got him
they have I can show you here they have I don't see it anymore but they have they they have milk
that's from corn so they like juice the corn and they get the the liquid from it and I gave
it to my dad and he's like oh this is really really good what is it and I said they call
this leite de cachorro and he says what is that and I said it's dog's milk and leite de cachorro
in Portuguese means dog's milk and my dad coughed it all up and almost threw up it was pretty funny
but anyway always playing jokes on the old man so pomonha which is like a corn and different
stuff they put inside it this one's sweet dulce and this one's salgado obviously pão de queijo
and different kinds of things like that they have all the fried area here there's carne which is
meat coxinha chicken hot dog fried hot dog pastel this is like my wife loves pastels
it's fried I'm not the biggest fan of pastel if I'm honest what I like is the foliado this is like a
I don't know how you describe like a napoleon style of like donut kind of thing they have
this one's a foliado and chocolate so it's like kind of like a croissant style flaky
and then they have um this one is a salgado so it's a presunto in queijo it's ham and cheese
and look at this this is what they describe as a hot dog American hot dog which is not exactly
American hot dog but anyway they also have you know all the dulces this is going to be your
maracujá um dulce which is cake right so maracujá torta all of that and then they have
this is from Portugal I don't remember what it's called what is this called guys help me out in the
comments man I always forget stuff when I'm recording videos but this is really good it's
something belém now anyway it's like a Portuguese style of thing and then bajuca
donuts right classic which not so popular I mean that's popular I guess but not so common
and then the ear of the cat you know it's pretty typical pretty classic coffee of course hot
chocolate have different style of coffee machines here as well and then you know obviously all of
your different drinks and things if you're that nature and all of their snacks and everything else
chocolates snickers all of these different kinds of things one of the things that I really miss is
you know my the stuff that I grew up with as a kid they obviously don't have all the same
snacks all the same things yeah so yeah all right guys so common here in Brazil as well
have cachaça people drink cachaça before their meal but I'm going to show you guys around here
as usual you're going to have buffet per kilo or livery so it's going to be different prices based
off of the uh the amount of food that you grab or you can have all you can eat that so obviously
salad this is like a potato salad what we call it in English other types of salad salad salad
salad salad salad I'm going to grab some oh that's interesting to have different colored eggs here
an interesting way to do that um in Brazil we always have fresh
he's showing his canal for me
this guy saw me recording and he was like oh let's check it out let's share channels of
Instagram and I was like oh yeah great let's do it so here show me his his channel
you got a great camera it was like so salami and cashew and I thought those were
grapes or grapes and then they have all kinds of different types of sauces here
which in Brazil if not as common but this place has all these different kinds of sauces
and falafel and I need to use both of my hands here so hang on a second I'm gonna
I'm gonna set this up so I can use both of my hands here all right let's continue here
so they have their soup they have arroz trapero with pinhão let's grab some of this
wonderful this is arroz with pinhão get some of that here I always like pinhão when it's available
during the year especially during this time period when it's more common to pinhão but we will hop in
here you have your feijão your arroz paçoquinha which is made out of paçoca which is made out of
feijão as well feijão no pinhão carne de panela kind of panela it's probably pretty good
I'm gonna get batata doce polenta and cajun it looks like and then here is
the meat so meat chicken damn I can't even go backwards
I'm gonna grab some of this I'm gonna grab some of this chicken
so here we go let's see how much this is gonna be and one pound half a kilo it's a lot of food
and we'll grab our paçoca and let's go eat hi guys I have my plate here and honestly
not much to write home about it is truck stop style food so I mean it's usually you're gonna be
gonna be eating on the road like this you're not always gonna have the highest quality of
food but the price will be pretty good so you know the convenience of having a place to eat
gives you that ability to stop and eat but you just like in America you sacrifice quality for
stuff so um chicken's not bad salad's not not too bad but it's just not that
the greatest so let me know in the comments if there's any surprises for you in regards to this
place you know it's pretty unpacked but it's pretty full compared to in the middle of the
night when we're usually passing through here and so uh seems to work but I would love to hear
you what you guys think and compare it to where you're from state you live in what country you
live in and uh let me know in the comments what you think about this place all right
thanks for watching guys as always until next time see you later
