Modern Chinese painting tutorial | Green Budgies

Hi everyone, I'm Kate. Welcome back to my channel. Today we're going to continue to paint some more lovebirds, the colorful one and the original. We're going to start with the color first. Let's get started. To get the main color of this painting, which is green, I'm going to need the blue color to mix with yellow. So there are two blues that I'm using here. The one on the left is sky blue and this one is the indigo that I always use. Personally, I like this color more than the sky blue. Now let's test the green color. I'm going to take some yellow first and then the sky blue. Just like the western watercolor, the shades of green depends on the amount of yellow color and blue color that you get. This is the green that I got and now I'm going to try the indigo with the yellow. I'm sure a lot of you have seen it many times but I'm going to show it to you one more time and have it compared with the other ones that I've just mixed. The result looks very similar but I think that the one mixed with sky blue looks more vibrant. Well, if the result is very similar, then I would go for the sky blue to mix because it is a cheaper color. Indigo is almost three times more than the sky blue. I mean the high quality indigo. Today I'm painting the original and the natural color of a wild type budgie. It is also known as green budgie because it is predominantly green. The wild type budgies have bright green bodies with yellow feathers on their forehead and cheeks. There are some black stripes on their head and wings and that's what I'm painting right now. This watercolor is not the same as the rice paper. It has lower water absorption levels so I'm gonna wait for the ink to dry and see through. So in the meantime, I'm gonna add some flowers to the painting. This pink color isn't really pink. It's the ruby red of Chinese watercolor. I'm using the indigo for the series and the cheek patches. The throat spots are black so I just use ink. Now I'm using this yellow color to paint the head. The water absorbance of this mountain card is very different from rice paper. I found these strokes a bit harsh so I'm adding just water to soften it up. The beak is light yellow but I found it a bit bland so I'm adding a bit more orange on it. Thank you for watching.
